Finished my 306 today

Well, I spent all yesterday (untill 1 AM) and most of the morning today and finished my project! It was a great sense of accomplishment starting it up for the first time rebuilt! I think I have my roller rockers set correctly (don't hear any noise at idle) and timing set decently accurately. Unfortunately......MY HEATER CORE WENT OUT!!!!! GAHHHHHHHHH! I am fairly sure it couldn't handle the molestation taking the tubes on and off and bumped when taking the engine out. And yes my car came with A/C. PIITB???

So that was a downer for the day as I realized I have 6-8 more hours of work. I haven't gotten to drive it yet because I have the front suspension under the knife now (SS lines, new struts, and LCA's up front). Quick question!

I obviously need a new heater core and I am looking for HIGH quality when I got to replace, any suggestions for brand as I don't want to do this twice?

Sorry I had to let it all out, just so much fun to finish this project with absolute success (thus far I guess).

when i thought mine went out everyone told me that ford oe ones were far better quality than the ones you buy from restoration places. even the heavy duty ones are supposed to be junkier than oe ford ones.

anyways congrats on the rebuild. how many miles did the motor have before you rebuilt. how much was the machiene work to bore it? stock block? did you get a h/c/i with it?

post pics. Please tell me u took pics. MOst of all, dont rush these types of projects. U must take your time. Hey, you got any helpful advice for a first time roller rocker adjuster like myself? I will be doing heads install here shortly. thanks

Unfortunately......MY HEATER CORE WENT OUT!!!!! GAHHHHHHHHH! I am fairly sure it couldn't handle the molestation taking the tubes on and off and bumped when taking the engine out.

The exact same thing happened to me, and it was a fresh heater core. Bumped the tubes installing the motor (not too hard) and the core let go the first time the new motor got warm. :(

Well this is the second time I've rebuilt the motor. First time I did it, two years ago, I only had the block honed out and put regular sized rings in it. Thought that was a good idea because the ring gaps were within spec etc, but.....can anyone say blow by? So this time I did it right. I most certainly did NOT rush this project, and honestly the only hard part is putting the internals together. Everything else just takes care and double checks.

I got H/C/I now and full exhaust.

As for roller rockers....I don't really think I can explain it well enough, but I'm sure there are tech articles on here. God bless :SNSign:

Yea I got a ton of pictures but they are too friggen big even when I edit them with photobucket.

Thanks for the input on the heater core...anyone else have any more info.

Thanks!

you know.. the OEM one in mine went for 17 years and 125,000 miles...

really.. I would consider that pretty decent..

If you plan on keeping ur car for another 15 years or more.. sure.. go ahead and spend cobs of dough on something "better"
