Who has a fire extinguisher mounted in their car?
I am thinking of adding one possibly mounted on the trans tunnel
(no console)
I really don't want to go with red or chrome. The interior has a lot of brushed aluminum (steering column, steering wheel, gauge cluster pod and glove box door) and I cannot find anything to match.
I guess that I could paint one to match the body color Urban Grey.
Thoughts?
Scott

Yea, check here.

apc fire extinguishers.

Have a chrome with flames in the mach and just ordered a black chrome one for the pro streeter. Both look nice but I do like the chrome with flames a bit better.

If I had my camera at home instead of work I would take a picture of mine. I have it mounted right beside the drivers seat right when ou open the door. I also have a larger one in the truck up out of the way on the drivers side wheelhouse. Either way its always a good idea to have one...My car has caught on fire twice and its a scary thing to watch if you dont have a way to put it out.

Yeah, thats why I have one. At the tender age of 15 I watched a guy try to put out a car fire with a hubcap and dirt from along side the road......lets just say it was a good idea, but a waste of time....

I have a 5lb(?) Kidde dry extinguisher I just threw behind the passenger seat of the '68. With all the rotten wires under the hood, it should probably be in the SVO.

As far as colors, the ones I know of that you can buy are red, white, and some type of chrome. I would only paint it if I needed a different color as it is unsafe to polish(remove material) from any high pressure cylinder. Fire extinguishers usually are't that high pressure, but still, would you want 5lbs of dry chem going off spontaneously inside your car? Only way around that is a CO2, and those cost alot. Only thing worse on cost is a type D, but I doubt too many of us have alot of magnesium parts.

I also bought a generic red one at Home Depot and used the "carpet grabbing" mounting that came with it to mount on the trans tunnel between the seats. Good cheap insurance, just incase.

I got this one at Walmart:
http://www.onestop-locks.com/acatalog/fire-extinguisher_kitchen_kidde_kkk2d_med.jpg

It fits perfectly wedged between the end of my console and the back seat and I like the little top/cover so it doesn't really look like a fire extinguisher. I'm eventually going to paint it black and I might actually mount the top/cover part to the tranny tunnle, but for the time being it stays wedged there pretty good. If someone sits on the back seat it pushes it against the console a little and pops open the cover, but no one ever really sits back there so it's no big deal.
