I finally got the stang out to the track today for the first time since installing the the 347 this past spring. It was perfect day to be at the track: sunny 60 degrees and not to busy.

I definately had a traction issue, so I was really trying to ease it off the line but I was having some trouble being real conistent. I got about 7 runs in, and 2 were solid.

Here are the numbers of my best run of the day:

R/T .251 (my best reaction time of the day was .218)
60' 2.266
330 5.816
1/8 8.675
MPH 88.33
1000 11.139
1/4 13.212
MPH 109.23

All in all I am pretty happy considering the car has not even really been tuned yet, definately time to start thinking about drag radials for next year!

Here is pic of my best run against my buddy's '06 LS2 GTO:

your car is good for 11's with that mph if you can get some serious traction. that's nice!

I was really hoping to break into the 12s today, but I just was to inconsistent, if I could have got my head on straight I think I could have made the 12.9s with the street tires. It was my first time on a drag strip in two years so I had some nerve issues too- lol.

Sounds like you had fun. Mines almost ready for the track (similar build), but I don't think I will make it before it closes for the season.

If you are still running street BFs...adding/upgrading traction should be you next purchase.

are you just getting really bad spin right off the bat? I remember my first few times at the track, my clutch foot was shaking REALLY BAD....

You really weren't that far off in hitting 12's. You 60'er held you back, for sure. With more traction and more driving experience you should easily have a low 12 or even an 11 second car.

Way to get out there and run it coolblue!!

You've gotta get some race tires. Drag radials at a minimum will get you
easy 12's.

I have run as quick as 12.01 with your mph.

Drive the first sixty feet like an old lady. Leave at idle, slip the clutch out, and slowly start feeding power. Maybe even short shift to second. Keep getting more agressive till your times slow down.

You've got a car with more horsepower than grip and you need to get the DRIVER to adapt a little bit or fire the crew chief.

Glad you had a good time.

Thanks for the comments. The season is pretty much over here in Chicago-land, so I have a nice number to improve upon next year.

Also, I have a video of my best run from the stands, and as I listen to it, I hear my exhaust letting out lots of back pressure it between shifts, (its a dual 2.25"),

Before next spring the car will have a new 2.5" exahust, be dyno tuned, and I will purchase some form of drag radial- I have heard good things about the M/T ET Streets.

Fast63- If I get on it to hard at the line it would either spin or get axle hop pretty bad (the axle hop popped it out of gear on one run)- same goes for 2nd gear. I was nervous but not much, I do a lot of road racing and auto-x in my vette so I am used to that.

I was real close to getting that cam, but the deal I got on the shortblock came with the 274hr.

Car looks great in that pic, that's a great start considering you had street tires front and back. Like as been mentioned, some D/R's on the rear. Then through some skinnes on the front to take another 30 lbs of unsprung weight out. I'd recommend some beefy rear shocks as well if you going to be hitting the track from time to time...

Maybe it's time to replace the leaf springs, ones with polyurethane bushings, and then get some traction bars... get rid of that hop! Wheel hop is worse than just spinning your tires. Posi is a must if you don't have it already.

Yeah I have done upgrades....3.55s, a Powertrax locker, 4.5 leaf springs, KYB shocks, weld on under rider traction bars, and Global west sub frames, heavy duty rear shackles, with poly bushings.

yeah, I should have read your signature before posting :-\ I am surprised you get wheel hop with all that done. How do you like the Powertrax locker? How does one go about getting one installed? I have peg-leg and want to get a locker. You have an 8 inch rearend, or 9?

I have an 8" rear, the Powertrax works very well, but takes some getting used to, its a bit noisy during hard turns at real slow speeds (like parking). I definately get some looks when I pull into parking spots at cruise nights.

I did the install myself some years back at the same time when I put the gears in (I had a mechanic friend help with the gears). If I recall correctly it was a very easy install and you don't have to mess with the gears. You could remove the axles and pumpkin then swap in the Powertrax and reinstall in a matter of a couple hours.

I hate (read jealous) you guys w/your 347's. Nice freakin MPH! Should go a bit higher w/more traction. Definitely a SOLID 12 sec ride!

Good for you for taking such a cool car to the track....
Pretty good times for your suspension/tire set-up.
With those tires and 620lb coils in the front it will be hard to get sub 2 sec. 60ft. times.
But I bet your car handles pretty good!
The other side of the equation is if you make changes to get it to start hooking up harder you will lose the handling and run the risk of starting to break stuff.....
