Agreed. If it has a stock 55mm MAF, it will flatten out just before 5k. Upgrade to a 70mm MAF and she'll pull good to at least 6k.

Ok cool. Actually I should have asked first about the year since I made comments about MAF. But my comments are still good since MAF began in '89. The EFI cars prior to '89 were speed density, a different fuel control system.

1989 is one of the most sought after production years. It's the first year for MAF, and last year as a non-airbag column. Congrats, enjoy and above all, be safe!

BTW you can upgrade to a 70mm MAF by using a donor MAF from other Ford cars that use 19lb injectors. I had done this in the past with great success. You just need a donor MAF and an air tubing adapter. Other than that, plug and play. There's a good write up on here somewhere. My 70mm donor MAF on my previous project came from a 1994 Mercury Marquis. I originally had it on my 92 LX but that car is now boosted. The Marquis MAF is now on a 93 Convertible that I also own. It worked perfect previously on the '92, and now works perfect on the '93.

Just keep the stock MAF, you can swap it back at any time, just like it was never gone. That stock 55mm MAF is by far your first bottle neck in top end performance.

The stock one looks like the one on the left in this picture. Looking down the throat you see it neck down. In addition, the stock ones have bosses on their underside where they bolt to a bracket on the fender well. the 70mm's for upgrade are just suspended in the air tubing and dont bolt to the bracket. Also you can take the numbers off the actual MAF sensor to identify.

Here's a cut paste I snagged.

If I remember correctly the reason you want to use the 94-95 they have the closest transfer curve to the fox computer. You don't want to slap on the wrong MAF as it can cause the engine to run lean even though you may not notice it.

Here is a list I did of interchangeable MAF's a few months back.

1995-94 Mustang 3.8L F2VF-12B579- A1a or A2A,
1994-92 Crown Victoria 4.6L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
1995-94 Mustang, Mustang Cobra 5.0L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
1994-92 Town Car 4.6L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
1994-92 Grand Marquis 4.6L F2VF-12B579-A2

For the flange adapter, you can either buy this adapter , look on ebay, fab on up.
