First Post - A Few Questions (please be gentle!)

Hey All -

This is my first post in the S197 section. Cool huh? Anyway, I'm looking into the possibility (more like almost certainty) of buying a Mustang in the coming years. Mainly, I want to wait for Ford to get the kinks out of this car. As a Focus owner, I know that the first couple years of a car's production can be real sloppy, but that Ford usually gets their act together in about 2-3 model years. Anyway, I have a few questions for you all. I've done a good bit of searching on these topics already, but still need a few answers.

1) Has anybody heard of any definite plans or dates on Special Edition S197 Mustangs? I saw this little section in the release article of the GT500, but it doesn't mention specifics:

" The GT500 and the production-intent Sport Trac Adrenalin teaser accelerate the wave of momentum at SVT since the launch of the 2005 Ford GT supercar. SVT also now will develop non-SVT branded Ford Division performance vehicles – including heritage-based performance Mustangs in the spirit of the 2001 Bullitt GT and 2003 Mach 1 – as it becomes more directly integrated into Ford's mainstream product development process."

I'd LOVE to see what a Mach edition of the s197 would look like. Of course, I'd ultimately like a GT500, but I don't think my insurance would be too keen on the idea of a 23 year old with a heavy foot being behind the wheel of one of those.

2) Speaking of insurance, does anyone know what I can be expecting (ballpark) for insurance on this guy? I'm 23 with a clean driving record, but i live in San Diego (i know the info says SLO, but i'll be in SD by the time i own the mustang). anyone out there in a situation similar to mine that can give me an idea?

That's about all for now. I probably won't post too much. I mainly want to lurk in the shadows and learn all I can about this car before I get me own.

Thanks,

Mike

I'm also planning on getting a 'stang in a year or two, hopefully a GT500, but I wouldn't mind an special edition or GT :)

As far as I know Ford is planning to release special edition Mustangs sooner rather than later. I don't think they've officially said anything other than that.

I'm 20 and have looked into insurance on the '05 GT and I was quoted about $4,000 a year with a relatively clean driving record
