So I just recently took my stang out to Firebird Raceway here in Phoenix. It was a blast and I'm now hooked but I was a little disappointed with my times at the track. Here was my best time of the night:

13.9 @ 103.7 mph/ 2.1 60' (very traction limited!)

My question is what kind of tires should I get for the track? My tires right now are just not cutting it. If I launch at anything above 2500 my tires light up like crazy. I have 275/40 19 inch Pirelli PZero Rosso's out back and they corner like a dream but are terrible for traction off the line.

Here are my performance mods: BBK CAI w/ 91 oct tune, FRPP 4.10s, JBA shorty headers, Bassani catted x-pipe, muffler delete, BMR LCA's, Hurst short throw

I'm hoping with some better tires and a little track time I should be able to cut that down to very low 13's. What do you guys think? Any tips? I'm mostly concerned about how to set up my tires out back. I plan on just getting some cheap rims and buying some MT ET streets or something. Any advice would be great!!

You need traction (don't we all!!!). He was my cheap solution for track days...

I bought a set of four (4) charcoal 17*8 Bullitt wheels (with nearly new tires) from a friend for $250 (he bought some 20" chrome wheels and didn't need his factory wheels/tires off his 06 Mustang any longer).

I kept the factory 17" Pirelli's on the front pair, and mounted a pair of 275/40/17 BFG Drag Radials on the back pair. With 18 psi, these drag radials hook up perfectly - even in my low-12 second ride (07 GT automatic with Vortech supercharger, 4800 rpm stall converter, and 4.10 gears). Here's what my setup looks like on my GT...

With traction and your mods, I don't see any reason why you can't run low 13's. Go to a low elevation track with awesome, cool weather and your GT might even post a 12.90 in the 1/4 mile!

I think I actually have a friend with an old set of rims off his mustang. That sounds like a great idea. I appreciate the advice! How much do the BFG's normally go for and where do you recommend getting 'em?

i think with a little more seat time you can bring that down.

i had a 13.9 at 103. and a 13.5 at 103.8. i have a little bit less done to my car. my 60 ft time was right around 2.1 too.

the 13.5 run i just dumped the clutch at 2 grand.

this was my first time to the track too, but i was used to slammin gears. dunno if you drive your car hard alot.

you'll get better with practice and traction...

i just went to the track yesterday with my new setup and was disappointed but I think a lot of it as to due with weather/humidity it was high as hell, i was running consistent 13.2's back to back and i ran a 13.2 before i had the new mods but only once and it was cold out, hell i think im going to try a new tune out too and go back soon maybe i'll get lucky and it will be cooler out so i can get a new record.. i see 13.0's in my future but 12's im not sure with my current setup. o and my mods are similar to yours. ur gonna wanna get a better set of tires for the rear right now im using M&H Drag Radials.
