fixable or not?

Not sure if this has been mentioned.....but i had this exact issue on a 1988 lincoln mark vii and my 1995 mustang......its usually the ignition module every time. On the 94/95 cars the module isnt on the distributor....its on the front of the passenger side shock tower. remove the intake to access it. They look like the 87-93 unit but are different....and theres a difference between the module for autos and manuals....get an after market performance one.

Good idea here.

A couple of little clarifications. When he says intake, that means inlet (as opposed to the air plenum or intake).

Auto vs manual TFI's doesnt apply to 94-95's, and it's an incorrect listing at many parts stores for aero foxes. Ford used Push-start and CCD TFI's. They were generational, not particular to a trans type (namely, CCD limits dwell to allow the coil last longer).

I am having similar problems and at my wits end. I'm about to burn it to the ground. Hasn't started in about 3 months. Turns and turns and turns, but wont start. Pulled the chip thinking it was fouled, that wasn't the problem. My fuel pressure goes up when the key1 is turned, but almost immediatley drops back to zero. I'm sure this is do to an open injector, but it was fine this way for at least six months before all the other problems began.

^^I stand corrected^^
...But yeah ive had that issue before. I have had the module go on the highway at 70mph.....then magically as i was slowing down the car started running again. Then again ive been stranded randomly for an hour or 2 then magically the car starts again. Either way last spring i took the mustang out....came home and then went to leave 15 min after it was running and it wouldn't start. Fast forward 1 hour and Vrooom. But its not good not knowing when your car isn't going to run. (Especially on the highway)

I didn't see it mentioned, but may have missed it.. Have you ruled out the PIP sensor in the dizzy?? I had a random not start issue that went on for a while, tried several things.. read about the pip sensor problems.. rebuilt dizzy from AZ fixed it, never has happened again in 3 years and 15k miles.

I had a similar problem last year, cost me around 9 months of my car not being reliable/running.

Went to 4 different shops including a ford dealership, none of them could figure it out. The car had a laundry list of parts thrown at it with no effect.

I ended up taking the car to a VERY good ford tech who worked on these cars when they where NEW. He took a lot of time to properly diagnose what was going on and was able to fix the problem. My suggestion is to find a Ford tech that knows his stuff, electrical gremlins are the absolute worst!

Mine ended up being a issue with a crappy rebuilt distributor, coil was also getting some kind of backfeed thru the wires and burning them up (I have a msd coil that melted into goo), and it was eating ignition control modules for lunch. (Also getting hot and burning up.)
