FL-300 and FL-1A filters the same?

My 83 uses fl300 motorcraft and i think 86-93 use fl1a can i use fl1a? seems like the only difference is that the fl1a is a bigger filter.

If you have the clearance for the additional length of the FL1A you should have no problems. Small bit of compensation for the additional oil capacity may be needed.

The FL-1A is the normal, correct oil filter. If you have the additional, SSP oil cooler, then you need the shorter, FL-300 for clearance.

Other than length, the two filters are identical.

FL1A is the normal filter and the 300 is used when running an oil cooler.
