Are jacks rebuildible when they start to leak?
Yes they are. I have a truck jack older than that I am. I recently had it rebuild at a local hydraulic repair company for $100. It works like new now.

Craftsman 4000 lb. Capacity Aluminum Jack - Model 50239 at Sears.com
This is the one I bought. I got mine for $150 I think. I didn't read the negative reviews before I bought it. Mine has worked well so far, but I've only had it for about 3 months.
Avoid craftsman. I had one that broke after about a months worth of light use. Don't get me wrong I like Craftsman sockets, but anything else, like a floor jack, or the torque wrench that I had that also broke after mild use, AVOID.

hmmm i have thousands of craftsman tools, including torque wrenches and floor jacks, both of which i have used many times while working these past few weeks

....car hasnt dropped and killed me yet...but i use a 2 post lift most of the time.

Gotta bring this back. I'm pretty upset about my craftsman jack as of today. I was lifting the front drivers side of my car looking to figure out where I was losing coolant from. I heard a pop, and found this:

The two main steel plates that make up the sides of the jack bent out, and the front wheel (drum) came out. I could be way off, but I don't think something like this should happen. Any thoughts?
