Hello gang! I have a '90 gt conv. That needs a new top. I plan on ordering a top, the book, and the video from LMR. I've never installed a convertible top before. Is this a really complicated job, is it doable for a detail oriented individual,Anybody have experience with this job? Any thoughts or input would be appreciated, thankyou!!

Thread 'Questions on convertible rear panels removal, convertible hydraulic component replacement and convertible top replacement'

Aug 24, 2022
Hello Gents, good morning,

I looked last night and can see that both of my convertible top hydraulic cylinders are leaking and need replaced.

From what I gather here, it's best to replace all components, at once, pump, lines and cylinders?

How do the rear panels next to the rear seat come out? I see a few screws here and there, but I've never had one apart.

Are the cylinders and lines hard to access to replace? I also noticed last night one of the tops cables was slack\no tension so that's not good either.

Is the top itself hard to replace? I've never done one. I believe lmr has a...

Thanks! I was just reading through that, good stuff. I've already decided I'm doing it myself so I just want to collect as much information as I can. I run a small private body and paint shop so taking my time and getting things straight isn't new to me, I'm just not an upholstery guy. I'm in ND and the nearest "top shop" is three hours away and I don't feel like quadrupling the cost of the job so here we go!!!
