I was on my way home from work today and was pulled over for modified exhaust / loud exhaust noise by a Florida Highway Patrol officer of all things. he looked to be straight out of the academy. I was on Ben Hill doing about 45 -50 in 5th gear (low rpms) raining, there is no way he heard my exhaust and I was not reving or racing in any way. Well it's a $94 ticket and now I'm sure my car will be marked any time I'm pulled over, which is not very often i might add. last ticket was in 1998. according to him in the state of Florida it is UN lawful to operate a vehicle with ANY kind of exhaust modification other then factory. sorry for the long post. I was just wondering if any of you guys (or girls) have gone through this. I know I just put the SLP II cat back on but I swear it is not as loud as the 2 chamber flo's I had on for the last 7 YEARS and never got pulled over for it. the only good thing that came out of it was it was raining and he did not have a poncho on so I was sure to ask (very politely) plenty of questions about the statute so I had a clear understanding of the law, as he explained and got soaked

I use to live on the Beach and then moved to Naples before coming to Orlando. I like Ft. Myers.

Yeah, I have no idea. You should do a bit of googling and see what comes up. I don't think its illegal to modify your exhaust, but decibels for loudness, yes.

Side note: Are you on the silver mustang registry? I try to plug it.

That BS. I remember driving a couple of weeks without one of my mufflers. Over that course of time I ended up next to a few cops who didn't seem to mind driving alongside something that sounds like it should be at the Monster Truck Show.

Man sorry to hear that. I'm up in Tampa, and I've never, ever been pulled over for loud exhaust. I have Mac long tubes with a prochamber midpipe and no mufflers. I can barely hear myself think, much less wonder what other people think when I drive by. Don't get me wrong, I've been pulled over numerous times (probably between 10-20...only got two tickets for speeding) Most of the cops around seem to enjoy or admire muscle cars, but they'll pull over any *** car with one of those fart cans. Maybe he just realized how small his man parts are, and had to pull somebody over who clearly is far more empowered then himself. Obviously in that case, anybody who would drive one of those little Honda go-carts isn't the target.

reguardless, I'd still Buy American!

Sorry didn't mean to turn this into a forum for my hatred for those cars.:OT:

When he pulled me over I thought for sure it was going to be for my tint. never in my life did I think it would be my exhaust. like I said it was raining and my windows were up and you can not see in my car in the dark or over cast.

as far as the OT no worries. I feel the same way

Well, that exhaust is modular in design. Its much louder on the outside than it is on the inside. My Magnapacks are the same way. I think its quiet until I heard a technician drive it over to me.

Is it an equipment citation? We all know that here in FL LEO's have been told to pull people over for anything over 7mph over the limit in my area. I have been to Ft. Myers and haven't seen any FHP on Ben Hill whenever I have been down there to see friends at FGCU.

He probably wanted your number but got too nervous

Yeah, he probably thought he was doing his duty by fighting the good fight against alleged street racers.

I had the same thing happen to me. I was standing about 10ft. behind my Mach and I was actually startled how loud it was. I'm the only one that ever drives it besides the one time I had it at the dealer.

I remember reading something about this before (not specific to FL) and to give a citation based on noise, and actual reading had to be provided OR a warning followed by a recurring infraction (ie. a loud house party would get a warning then a ticket).
