Flycut Pistons? for Head/Cam upgrade?

Hi All,
I have been researching my next upgrades of heads and cam. I am leaning towards the TFS Track Heat Twisted Wedge heads or the Edelbrock Vic Jr's, or AFR 165's.
All with 2.02/1.60 valves. Cam will be a decent choice to match the heads and my mods, the Wolverine 1087 was mentioned. 1.6 rockers will be used.

I will be using my stock rebuilt 302 block, with stock pistons. I am confused as to IF I need to flycut the pistons. I was told I had to no matter what head I chose if it was a 2.02/1.60 valve setup (actually by a local Mustang Shop), and I was also told that the TFS heads would not require it. I know every motor is slightly different, but who is running their stock pistons uncut with the above listed setups?????? Also any cam suggestions are appreciated also
THANX

Since you're looking at AFR 165's and TFS Track Heats I dont think you should bother with the Vic Jr's. They're more than you'll ever need on a stock 302 shortblock. I've also heard that TFS heads dont require flycut pistons cause of the valve placement. Btw, Vic Jr's have 2.05" intake valves.

Total BS I run .566/.566 lift cam with 218/224 duration @.050 and I have stock pistons and Canfield aluminum heads with 2.02 1.60 valves.

Its a FTI custom cam, Ed Curtis told me it would clear no problem. I didnt believe him but he was correct.

Thanx for the info, I posted a list of my mods below. And when the married guy budget can afford it I will most likely add a blower, BUT that may be 2yrs. I would also like a head that I can be ported to work great w/the blower in the future. That is why I am concerned about the smaller valves of the AFR 165's?? Is that a concern??

Also what cam would work w/ my current setup?? Do I have to get a Custom Grind, or is there a box cam that will work?? The old Wolverine 1087 was mentioned if you can still get it...

Thanx Again

It would be a total waste of money to get a custom cam with stock heads. My custom cam was 325 bux and I only gained a very marginal increase in performance over my old E303 cam.

There are alot of cams that would work well. E303, B303, F303, Steeda #18, Steeda #19 the list goes on and on.

Dont worry too much about the natural flow of your parts when preparing for boost. I know a guy that is putting 450 to the wheels with a stock short block, stock heads, stock intake, stock throttle body etc... you get the point I am sure.

Why so much lift are you running boost or a lot of compression? And with that kind of really badass setup you are only in the 300 rwhp range?

That was my dyno with an E303 cam box stock Canfield heads and ported cobra intake.

I havent dyno'd with the new parts. I ran some 7.90's in the 1/8th mile thats the only numbers I have with it.

I want to replace the Cobra intake with an edelbrock performer RPM II and make one more trip to the track with the 302. Then I am dropping in my 331 stroker.

well that makes a lot more sence. I personally Would not touch a b or e cam with a ten foot pole just not a good quality cam. I am sure with the setup you have now you are in the 350-375 rwhp range.

DARK_50 You must have missed the beginning of my thread, the cam ? goes along w/ the head of choice ?? either the AFR 165's or the Track Heats??
