flywheel balance

okay i went out and got my flywheel and tourque converter for my setup.

im running a 289 tc on my 69 351. my question is the flywheel i got is for a 302/5L engine years 71-76. it is 13-5/16" in diameter and has 157 teeth. it is the closest thing i could get to the orriginal 289 flywheel. my question is. is it the same imbalance as the orriginal 289 flywheel and will i ahve any problems if i try and run it on my car with 289 ballancer and t c

thanks,
tommy

You know, that is a good question. I am building a late 302 (92) for my car and I am kinda in the same boat. I have a standard transmission and I have to get a late model flywheel. Anyone know if I am going to have problems fitting or using the 50oz flywheel in my 66 bellhousing and if everything will bolt up? I am planning on just using the 92 flywheel and hoping that all will fit. What differnence will the teeth count make? Anyone?

The 157 Tooth 50 oz/in flywheel will work fine inside a 289 bell housing.Been using just that combo for three years now in a V8 Ranger. :nice:

If you change the # of teeth you have to change the bellhousing with it. It is simply a matter of lining up the starter, if you used the large bell housing with the small flywheel the starter gear wouldn't hit the flywheel gear..

ford motorsports has a 50oz 157 tooth flywheel for $99 through summit or jegs

speedway motors has a 28 oz 157 steel flywheel(i cant find a cast one) for $160

the 164 tooth flywheels a readyily availible in most parts stores
