that's true.... insurance money is a great way to supplement your upgrade budget... sucks to see though... im terrified of hail.

time for upgrades.
i always look at something like that as a positive. no good getting bent out of shape about it.
not much he can do to upgrade the roof though hahah. maybe a cdc glass roof though

That night I said to my wife ''I wonder If your car is ok " we got it at our house but nothing over marble size . I assume your stang was is midland and not around the corner on Washington street . what is your deductible ? you could get the bumper fixed at the same time all for one deductible , I think.

My Mustang suffered a few dings, but nothing like that. I feel for ya man! I do have to agree that the silver lining is that the situation and insurance money warrants consideration of upgrades. That'd be my excuse...

my god. the main thing i want in a house is a nice 2 car garage, if not bigger. that picture just secured my reasoning and may just end up making just a really big garage i can live in hah.
Thanks for the replies and consolation folks. Appraisal for repairs topped $4000 and it goes in the shop 4/27.
In regard to upgrades, Geico is issuing a two-party check to myself and to the body shop. I'm guessing that the replacement parts have to be chosen by the shop doing the work? The hood has to be replaced and the cost w/o paint is $1200! I could get a Cervinis hood PAINTED for less than that! Anyone in the insurance biz know if I have any options here?

Just talk to your body shop and tell them what you want and here is where to order it etc. They won't care as long as they are making the same amount of money.

yeah +1 to nasty. we have people want to upgrade parts especially after they see the price of OEM parts. talk to the guy in charge of the shop, and tell him exactly what you want.
i never realized how expensive OEM hoods are for our cars. the repro hood on latemodel restoration is 419.
i cant for the life of me think of what company we use for repro parts. they make hoods for the s197 aftermarket though also.

Yeah, the guy at the shop agreed to allow me swap the OEM hood out with a Cervinis one. The catch? The guy won't order it, he says I have to wait until all the other work is complete, THEN he'll cut me a check for the hood. He states that the shop can't order aftermarket parts to avoid being the middle-man in the event the customer is unhappy with fitment, finish, etc. I'm short the cash, otherwise I'd just order it now. Wonder if Geico can help with this situation? Other repair shops are overbooked now because of the storm, I'd just be getting at the back of the line now if I switched.

i wouldn't be too worried about the wait. cervinis stuff is pretty good quality out of the box from what i've seen and dealt with, so very minor prep on the hood, and just have to have it cut in. then toss it on the car. won't take long.
one touch that i recommend, is see if they will clear the underneath of the hood. my shop uses water bourne paints, so we have an additive to add to trunks, and underhood and stuff like that to flatten the paint out a little bit, to match OEM. I believe using regular paint shops would just not clear it. but because of our waterbourne paint it would just wash off if we didn't do that haha.
i don't know if geico would help out at all in that situation. i also don't know how your body shop would feel about you calling them and finding out, because they would get paid for an OEM hood most likely, while only using the money for the cervinis. so if you called geico, they would know your using a cheaper hood and only give the body shop the money to buy the cheaper hood.
as long as the shop your using is a good quality shop. i wouldn't be worried about switching over to a different shop, that'll just delay you having your pride and joy even longer.

The bright side is that it wasn't your fault and your getting it fixed I also went through the process of upgrading a bunch of body parts on mine. The OEM hood is over $800
That was more than enough to cover the cost of the Steeda hood and to paint it Since the body show was at fault for the damage, they ordered it and paid shipping Hope all turns out well for you
