i recently picked up a set of FMS headers to compliment my o/r h pipe. I was talking to a mustang guy who said i need to get better header bolts, where the head of the bolt is thinner (i think). Could somebody direct me in getting the best header bolts for this application? ATM it's going on stock e7's but i plan on going to gt-40 "p" eventuallly. My other question is about sound, will better shorty headers lower the tone of the exhaust, make it louder or what? Thanks for all the help.

The stage 8 locking header bolts are good, pricy & hard to install, but you will not get header leaks. For cheap, just go the local auto parts store & ask for some header bolts, they have a smaller head with a 7/16" head.
Shorty headers will not alter the sound much at all.

Just use regular header bolts with split washers. You probably would want to use a 1" bolt if your header flange is thick enough. I used a 3/4" bolt on my BBK headers and I stripped one the of holes with the 3/8" wrench becuase there aren't enough threads in there.
