Overall length from the mounting flange to the end of the starter is
6.25 inches to allow for header clearence!

This starter will replace older 4 inch and 4-1/2 inch 9 tooth bendix gear starters

I was just wondering what the exact difference is between these starters. I read a bunch of reviews from DB and the all seemed pretty good, but I ran across this one.

I don't know if he got a bad unit, or if it was operator error. It doesn't specify in the OP, but the other person said "flywheel" which leads me to believe that he has a manual trans, which requires a kit.

I know more times than not you get what you pay for, but I can't see spending $250 for a freaking starter.

For the price, I think I'll go with the Ebay unit. Right now I just need a starter to dyno. If I have any problems with it grinding, I'll just return it since it has a year warranty.

Just wondering if anyone has any opinions on either of these.

autozone 92 mustang starter for a 5.0 auto is whats in the race car... it turns over a 440" 14:1 small block. it fits in between an RDI block with yates SC1's and a set of 2- 2.25 stepped headers with a 4 inch collector...

no need for one of those over priced things

The second one I posted is 45 bux. It's half the price of the cheap az unit.

not sure how much id trust an ebay starter... weve had better luck with this AZ starter then the napa gold on it before.

Ford put the mini starter on the mustang for 1992 and 1993. The ford racing starter is an oem 92/93 starter. They reference it bein smaller and more high torque than the earlier pre-92 starter.

So those two starters, plus an autozone 92/93 starter are the same thing. Get whichever one you trust mOre.

If you put them on an 87-91, you need to do sOmenslight rewiring.

I will say the 92/93 starter does sound cooler than then pre-92 starter

The only reason why I looked at the FMS starter is because that as the one that Kooks said to run. I guess the word "motorsport" is a selling point because that starter came stock on many vehicles like trucks after 92.
