Foglight + Headlight bulb question..

So 1 of my stock fogs finally went, and the other is about to. I want to replace both foglight bulbs, but also upgrade my headlights. I have heard good things about the Sylvania Silverstar bulbs, but is there a foglight bulb that matches in light color to match (that doesn't blow after 2 months)?

I searched and found a bunch of old threads, but nothing up to date, so I figured I would post this. I drive a V6, but this forum is more traveled than the 6cylinder counterpart, so I was wondering if you guys had any advice as well.

im pretty sure the bulbs are the same as a GT. here are my sylvania silverstar bulbs. part #9007. fogs are #899 or #897. see for yourself

I havent tried yet, but I believe there is an unlisted part that will fit in the fog light socket to match. Take in your bulb and compare the socket type and wattage ratings, I remember finding one exactly the same but did not show in the computers.

Yes i think so, i think its the 897 DerekStangGT said.. It may have been even 896 or something similar... Can't really remember.

where should i get the silverstars? Do they have them at Pepboys or regular autoparts stores?

You use silverstar for fogs as well?

very expensive at a parts store, like $45+. i got mine from ebay. $32 shipped

oh, and how difficult is it to change headlight bulbs? Foglights are easy. I haven't done the headlights before though.

the headlights are easier than the fogs. pop the hood. above the headlight housing, there is a black tab/clip. get a flathead and pull the tab straight up. then just pull out the housing. there are two connections. one for the headlight itself, the other on the side for the blinker. you want the one in the middle, toward the middle of the car. pull off the "holder" and pull out the bulb. be sure your car has been sitting or else the bulbs will be HOT. ive burned my fingers a few times. should take no more than 5 min to do both sides.

the foglights are very difficult to find. i still havent bought mine yet. you dont really need them though. i cant tell the difference between the stock fogs and the silverstar headlights.

well my stock fogs are getting dim, so I was going to replace them anyway. I picked up the silverstar headlights tonight for $36. Judging by the look of the pic you posted, the silverstars are much brighter then the stock headlights, but you say you can't tell the difference from the stock fogs? I am confused and wondering if it is even worth the money to buy the silverstars?

Anyway, Since I need to replace my fogs, should I just go with the standard 899 sylvania's?

I have Silverstar 9007's in my headlights but i ran the Silverstar fogs and found they were only rated for 100 hours. I burned them out every 3 months. SO i run some ricer light now. It actually matches perfectly. It's one of those Xenon blue lights...that actually lights up white.

I also run the silverstar headlamp & foglamp bulbs,and i love the way they look. I have had the headlamp bulbs for almost a year with no problems, but the foglamps have burned out at least 2 or 3 times. If i could find better bulbs that matched i would buy them. I would never put the stock bulbs back in though because the silverstars make them look horrible imo.

Can you give me a part number and/or a brand name to look for? I think Sylvania pulled the Silverstar foglights that they had since they only worked for 100 hours, But I found the 893 silver stars on this website. Also, when I put in 2001 mustang, it comes up with 893ST for foglights, and also 880ST, which it says replaces the 893ST. Are the 880ST's the new bulb that lasts longer like a bulb should?

How easy or hard is it to remove the lens' from the brackets? My brackets are fine, so if I could get these and pop the old lens' out and these new clear ones in, it would also be nice. Let me know.

Getting the top two attachment bolts for the brackets out was a PITA for me, but it's worth it. If I knew then what I know now it would have been much easier. BTW the fog light assembly simply snaps out of the bracket.
