I made a thread here on window regulator replacement with pics.

If you had done a simple search here and used it you would be out about $150 total and you would also know how to adjust your glass and remove your door panel and you would have a real nice giant rivet gun.

Well played...

This reply was ok, up until the "Well played..." comment, at which point, your usual cheerful attitude prevailed. Dare I ask how many more of your smug remarks we'll have to endure before your next self-imposed vacation takes place?

I wouldn't go to the dealer for service unless someone else was paying. And even then i'd probably figure a way to keep the money. Next time, save yourself some money and search!

Is the thread about how I offended your delicate sensibilities or is it about window repair?

As for your question I am not now nor ever will again be a regular poster here. I just stop from time to time if y'all do not like it then ****ing ban me

Hey KT, hows it hanging?

OP, yeah we all know how dealers love to rape you :nonono:
I am not looking foreward to the first time I need internal engine work cause NO shops in a 100 mile radius will touch a 4V engine around here. Just the stealership :notnice:

How many hours labor did they charge you? should be about 2.0 hours.

BTW do you guys know why dealers or most repair shops charge so much..

1. cost of tools.. Dealers or any repair shop that can do ALL repairs on your car has to spend hundreds of thousands in special tools. Most private shops do not invest in these tools. So they either have to try and improvise and do the repair that way or send you to the dealer anyways..

2. asshats..... Who do you think pays when the customer is a asshat and ford tells us to go die.. You will be surprised some of the stuff we eat at our cost..

some of the stuff we give away makes me sick.. nothing I hate more than some jerk you KNOW did not take even basic care of their car get a new motor at a steep discount or even for free just because they were acting like a ass.

3. cost of competent techs... No way I am doing this crappy job and buy up too 100k in tools if I am not going to make good money.. Most fully certified experienced techs make 30+ a flat rate hour and personally I think we are still way underpaid at that.. thats only 40 percent or so of the effective shop rate after basic costs and discounts. we charge 98 a hour ( cheap in this area) but our effective shop rate after discounts is about 67 or so a hour.

4. cost of support staff and loaner cars... most private shops don't give you a NICE loaner car. at the dealer I work for we give you a 2007-2008 fusion or the new ford taurus.. The private shop up the street from me has A ( one) loaner car.. it's a mid 90's cavalier thats painted white on the left side and red on the right.. WOW I really want to drive that all around town.

You are very right sir.
When I worked at Audi people would complain at shop costs and we were the only place on island that would touch Lambos, Ferrari and Rolls. We had to buy 200,000 bucks in special tools JUST for A8s and we only sold two of them a year :nonono:
Our rates were only $30 more an hour ($120) then the other shops. Guy with a Diablo VT complained about the $5000 clutch job untill we showed him the $14000 in specialty tools Lambo said we had to have to keep warrenty.
I have heard stories but never seen first hand a dealership not standing fully behind their work and make sure its done right the first time. They have always been better IMO at the work that needs to be done and should something go wrong the dealership made sure I had a free loaner car (even though I was out of warrenty) and got the job done.
I can do the vast majority of work on my car but if I needed a transmition rebuild or motor rebuild and wanted to keep stock specs I would trust a dealership over most any other mechanics shop. Save for the specialty places but they charge way more then the dealerships.

The biggest problem with dealers and private shop alike is the LACK of quality techs. sadly you don't know who is getting your car. Some of us are good and others are just kids out of school, hacks or other incompetents.

My suggestion to anybody going to the dealer is to find out who the best techs are at that shop. then to make sure you get one of them by talking to one of them and letting him know you want him to work on your car, find out his tech number so you can check your bill and see if that tech number has the billed time next to it.

I know it's a lot of work to do this, but you will get better results this way.

Thats an excellent point! :nice:
I did happen to know most of the guys working on my car at dealerships cause Maui is so small. I havent really gone to a shop since I lived here for anything other then sub frames and I checked alot of shops before I found one I was comfertable with

svttech or mike or whatever is a super master hack! jk. at our dealership we offer a free loaner cars also and we also all pretty much have a snap-on bill that we pay each week. plus we stand by our fix for 12months or 12,000miles. but if you get a good tech each time he will do quality work. i love working at my shop cuz theres alot of good guys there that will always help and offer good advise.

sometimes you just gotta fork over the bucks to get a job done right...

True.. I took this raping voluntarily though...with lube... the one kilgore just gave me had no lube:nonono:

Anyway, the ONLY, and i mean ONLY, reason i took it to ford is because the private shops here are run by a bunch of inbred hillybilly bastards that call themselves machanics because they can change an air filter..

The last private shop that i had fix this problem fixed it for $80 and no warranty.. 3 weeks later i could tell my window was about to eat $hit.. somehow it held up about a year now but with making loud banging noises going down and some assistance going up...At least this way i get a warranty on parts so i'll feel a little better about taking it up the arse..

Oh, they charged me 65 for labor, 230 for the "special order" window, and 158 for the regulator... and yes i know i could have gotten cheaper parts but i also know the service manager and that's another reason i'm letting ford do it..

Thank you ford for not just putting a window into a slot... woulda been much easier.. these clips that come attached to the "special" windows are as useful as traction control:bs:
