Would you have to upgrade the fuel system inorder to run the FMS 340HP crate motor, or could you use the stock set up..MAF, injectors, fuel pump. I just received a call that my AFR's on order for a week and a half are now backordered for another 2months!!! So I pulled my order with the distributor inorder to rethink or reorder from another source. TheFMS looks like a nice set up for my street only driven 88, the 340HP rating which I'm sure translates to like 270 at the wheels looks like it might just suit my needs. Let me know if you have this set up and how you like it.

I was thinking the same thing, if it puts out as much power as it says, it seems like a good deal. A good shortblock with a set of aluminum heads runs significantly more than $3k and you still have to put it together yourself.

With any of the set ups you're talking about, you'll need an upgrade in fuel pump, maf and injector size (24's) if you want to take full advantage of the motor - and not run it out of fuel higher in the powerband. Also the stock maf would be an airflow bottleneck at the 300-340 HP level.

Im just waiting for one more paycheck :D, anyway I remembered why I didn't want the FMS crate motor, it has hypereutectic pistons, and it doesn't come with any type of warranty (which is really not that big of a deal).

Hey I just like the idea of 4600 canadian and all I have to do is install my upper and lower and I'm movin and shakin..I still won't make up my mind for some time cause I have 8-9months before I have to put her back on the road. I still have to pull the old peice out, refinsh the engine bay, and start on the T-5 (again) before I have to worry about which way I want to go.

ive got the b series crate motor in my 87 gt. works fine for my daily driver and i have 19lb injectors with a 65mm tb, is that too small or will it be fine so long as i dont upgrade it anymore?

So I need to go to the pro-m 75 calibarted for 24's with injectors using a 190 pump in the tank should work well then? I'm thinking of going with the stock air box up to my Typhoon upper and lower, with that for fuel and induction with the 340 HP crate and mac Lt's and Hpipe, and all the little bolt ons like UD's and such do you think 280-290 would be fair at the wheels?

Maybe.....GT-40X heads still don't flow as much as Edelbrock, Trickflow, or AFR heads.

I don't get why so many people are quick to say that the gt-40x motor is over rated..You really think FMS is sitting there going "hmm...345 sounds pretty good..that oughta sell like hot cakes".. Ford is quite clear how they attained those numbers & the reason you see some people with low dyno #'s with this motor is because their combo does not meet the criteria provided..plain & simple. I am currently finishing up with my setup, I just need to get a throttle body & I'll probably update my ignition system too..that along with finishing up my drivetrain then she'll be ready for the dyno & track. If done right there's no reason why this motor can't achieve 300hp or close to the rear wheels. As for the hyp. pistons, thats nothing that can't be changed..& you can always port out the heads..I plan on going with a 331 stroker kit + main support & a blower within the next year or 2..run that till I'm ready for a race block. Bottom line is the gt-40x crate motor is a good deal for the money & a great replacement for a high mileage motor.
If you decide to just replace your heads, this is a useful site for comparisons http://www.allfordmustangs.com/Deta...13=205&xop14=217&Submit=View+comparison+graph

I'm running a carbureted GT-40X crate motor and LOVE it. OK, so it's not forged, and the crate heads are mid-level performance (compared to the best available), but this thing was a piece of cake to put in my '85, and fired up first shot. I pulled the oil pan and the accessories and was able to reuse almost everything from the original engine. I kept the original engine for rebuild as a complete stocker, but in the meantime, I've put the crate engine in for the fun factor. I used BBK shorties, an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, an Accel 300+ ignition system, Ford 9mm wires, an Accel billet distributor, a Barry Grant Crate Demon built for this engine, and a custom 2.5 exhaust system with 40 series Flowmasters. It sounds great, and runs even better. It pulls extremely hard all the way to 6K and has really surprised me with its comfortable streetability. It burns more gas than I'd like, but that's the price you pay for fun, I guess. I got all of this in a factory-assembled Ford engine for 3K, delivered.
