I bought a used pair of the Ford Racing alum sill plates (Ford Racing decal) from my mechanic for $20 cheap. They had just one strip of double faced tape down the middle. However they stuck well till about a week ago. I noticed that drivers side had bad wear marks from where the door was now rubbing against it.

I thought oh well time to see what I can do to fix it. I pulled the drivers side up with no effort - the tape was shot. Except where it had adhered to the alum Mustang insert. There was no seperating the two. It was like welded together. :D So beware of $99 Ford sill plates.

I may look around to see what's out there in the billit style. The oem Mustang inserts are like $15 each for simple alum with double faced tape on the back.

Lessons learned.

I bought the $16 ones from latemodelrestoration for the passenger side soon after I got my car last summer. It stuck good for the first month or so. The back started popping up, but no scrapes from the door. I waited until it came loose more before pulling it off. I replaced the original double sided tape with 3m tape. Cleaned the plastic really well(used the same method mentioned for cleaning the car surface for vinyl stripe install(wipe 10x with rubbing alcohol using a clean cloth each time). I even folded up a small towel and wedged it between the panel and door and left it for 2 days(in warm weather) and it's still popping up:(
