The 4.3 is a good solid engine that is farely large for a v6 and underpowered just enough to run forever when maintained, even with lots of abuse. We had an s10 extended cab 4x4 4.3 at the motorcycle shop I used to work at an used to tow about a 20 ft I-beam trailer LOADED with broken down bike crates to the dump, WAY over the recomended payload capacity for the truck and it took it like a champ. We'd wait till it rained and blast 20 mph into the dip our parking lot(about 4 ft of water) and it'd come sputtering out of it...almost everytime, always started the next day after letting it dry though 
gm makes garbage 4 bangers though and the 4.3 was their last good 6 in my opinion
