Ok So I was doing some work on my wifes 91 GT last week and I replaced the cam and intake and some other bolts on, and in the process of installing a TFS stage 1 I didnt mark which lifters and pushrods came from which original spot and now there is a valvetrain ticking during idle and reving. I need to pull the valve covers off and make sure its not a loose rocker or pushrod kinked off to the side, but if everything is tight, how would I go about fixing this problem? replace lifters, pushrods, both? Also should I tork the rockers or just bolt them tight? I still have stock E7's for now. Thanks!

Adjust the rockers correctly and what little bit of tap-tap-tap that remains will work it's way out as the parts wear into their new positions.

I would assume that you'd have looked at each of the push-rods as you pulled them out to see if any were visibly cone shaped, yes? If so, no worries.

I would hazard to guess that if you have a REALLY noticable tick, that you probably have a rocker that is out of adjustment (first guess) or a lifter that's not pumping up and requires replacement (2nd guess).

I doubled checked the lifters and they all spun free and slid into there boars easly when installing, but now that I think about it there was a few rocker arms that were a tad bit loose after they were all tightned down. Should there be ANY play in the rocker arm to pushrod when fully tightned? I have a set of pushrods on order from napa just incase, I am going to pull the covers off tonight and check the rods again. But after some more searching I think I saw 18-20 lbs for the stock rockers?

I realize that methods for adjusting rockers may be a little different from person to person but I'll tell ya what I do:

Once I get both the intake and exhaust valves closed, I rotate the pushrod until I begine to feel friction. It'll still spin freely but you'll feel that 'scraping' feeling indicating that seated. Then I tighten down the locking feature.

It sounds like maybe you've got yours adjusted very loose?

Well I just thought it was as easy as put the pushrods back in and tighten the ***** out of the rocker bolt....but im guess I am wrong. i did not rotate the crank/cam by hand before or after I tightened them all down. Should I give the crank a few rotations and then retighten?

Tighten to 22ftlbs. Any more than that and you will force the valves open. If some are loose they will work themselves into position after the motor is spun a few times.
