Found My Vibration, It Was The Clutch!!

I installed a new clutch yesterday. I took out the cheap one I bought at Oriley (140) and put in a Ram muscle car clutch. It's supposed to have greater holding power than the old one.

I'm happy to say it seems I've finally gotten rid of the vibration in my drivetrain. I only did a preliminary test though, but running my engine up towards 5000 RPM was smooth as a lumpy babies bottom.

I'll see what happens when everything is warmed up real good. My cat was in the car with me digging his claws in my lap so naturally I was pretty tame during the shakedown. Now to replace my damaged carb and I'll be cooking with grease.

sweet victory! clutches seem to be one area where you really sacrifice quality when you go cheap (more so than in most areas)

What RPM?

I've been chasing a vibration around 1700-2500 rpm ever since my T5 swap last summer with an Advance Auto 'Perfection' brand clutch. What rpm was your vibration? What brand was the clutch?

In the end my vibration started 3500 and went up to 5000 getting heavier the higher you went in RPM. I think it was lower and lighter before that and between 3000 and 4000.

That clutch liked to slip in third and fourth gears which I thought was weird you would think it would slip in the lower gears.

I don't know what brand the clutch was. I tried looking on Oreilly's site but the sites broken. I searched online and found a few people with similar problems saying that Oreilly, Autozone, and Advance Punkhole Parts all had the same brand which you should avoid using.

Hopefully I'll be able to get out and do some more testing after work today and see how that clutch is doing. Got to take my car for an inspection while I'm at it before the popo sees me riding dingy.
