Found out the hard way my engine hardly runs on 87

I was running low and the nearest gas station is about 5 miles from home so I grabbed the gas can for the lawn equipment and dumped a couple of gallons of 87 octane in. It wouldn't idle, ran terrible.

Unfortunately I don't know much about this engine, I don't know what cam, pistons, whether it's stroked or not. When I pulled the starter I couldn't find any casting numbers. One thing I do know now, it needs the 92 and a bottle of octane boost just to run

The octane shouldn't affect it to the point it won't idle... the worst you should notice is some pinging under hard acceleration if you have the timing advaced to run on 93.

My guess is the gas was bad or had water in it..... or you have some other problem that you're not aware of.

+1. All i run in my car is 87 and it runs beautiful

I suppose you're right... man I hope there isn't water trapped in the carb now. :o

I think you either put some gas mixed with 2 cycle oil or water. Either way get some gas cleaner like Lucas but Ive heard not to use STP.

Sounds like you put 2 cycle in it. I would pump the gas out and put 92 in it just to flush out whatever bad might be in the lines. If you have an electric pump you can hot wire it to run constant, and unhook the fuel line from the carb and run the pump and pump it out into a gas can...or if you're running mechanical pump do the same thing just crank the engine over until the gas is out unless you have a syphon.
