Been a member 4 years running since I got my CCW.

I like the NRA and what they do, but damn, you will start to get choked with mailings. I wish they took some of the money they spent on their mailings and put it towards political actions.

Pround NRA member here.

I'm sorry, but no one should be flaming on the freedoms of this country. A lot of people have made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure we can exercise those freedoms.

I agree with you but, there are some here that dont agree with my (our) stand on gun/ammo ownership. That's why I made the "firesuit" comment.

I wasn't going to join the NRA because I feel like my name and address are going to be on a "list" somewhere. "They" would go to that list to locate gun owners, if it ever came down to that. I haven't gotten my CCW permit for that reason, too. I guess I'm on the list now, I may as well CCW, too.

I was looking at the Ruger 380, as a Summer gun. Seems like it'd fit in a pants pocket really well. Any opinions?

I don't get the fear of the government talk of "taking our guns". When it has been proven that you can get anything on the street if they did take them away. It would not solve anything...and probably really cause them to be used in the manner they fear the most. The auto/assault thing comes and goes...but a real knock on the door and remove all weapons type thing would backfire in a BIG way.

Trust me, I'm well aware of the opposition that exists. I really try and approach things with an open mind, but those that are against gun ownership always use the same tired arguments based on irrational fears and misdirection (read: blantant lies) of the gun ban lobby. Don't even get me started...

I wouldn't worry too much about being the "list" by joining the NRA. It's a private orginization, so if the gov't forces them to turnover a list of members, we'll have much bigger problems to worry about. Besides, if "they" really wanted to create a "list" all they'd have to turn to are all the background checks run through the FBI every time someone purchases a firearm.

I finally applied for my CCW this week, so I'm trying to decide on a carry pistol as well. The Ruger seems like a nice choice, I'm just not sure I want to carry anything smaller than a 9mm. My first choice is glock 27 (sub comp. 40), but it's not really practical to carry in the summer. Maybe I'll just have to get both .

I agree completely that a ban or prohibition wouldn't do a thing for stopping violence. Bans generally create violence, look at prohibition and the current drug issues. But you can't ignore the facts that there are those in the government now, that have blatantly stated they want to ban guns, such as Pelosi in a recent interview. I'll see if I can find the link to the interview transcript.

The fear is that the next step will be registration, which in every other country around the world where that occured, was followed by confiscation.

It's not about gun control or safety of the populace. It's about control, plain and simple, which reaches further than guns.

I know how such statements come across when read. They sound somewhat fanatical which doesn't help anything. A few years ago I really didn't care one way or another on the issue, but when I started doing actual research and began cutting through all the BS in the media, you really have to wonder...

Good carry guns:

Ruger LCP
Keltec P3At
Smith and Wesson 340

All of the above come in .380+p. The LCP and the P3AT are semi automatics, while the smith and wesson is a revolver. The smith and wesson can also chamber .357 magnum, but its a whore to shoot, especially the scandium version because .357 kicks with authority and there is no weight to the gun.

My personal favorite, and the one I carry, is the Keltec. A lot of macho guys will respond to this thread and say "any caliber with a .4 or higher in front of it" but I am comfortable in my manhood and my accuracy enough where I'm not worried about it.

If you want a legit gun that will comfortably fit in your pocket then I recommend the above 3.
