My '88 hatchback over heated the other day while on the freeway. I was able to get off the freeway and to a gas station where I was able to add water to the radiator. The water came out the bottom of the engine as fast as I poured it in the top. I'm hoping it's just a freeze plug that blew out.

When I jacked the car up a few minutes ago water dribbled off a metal plate between the engine and bell housing. I still have no idea where the leak is at though. None of the hose appear to be the source.

Can someone tell me where the freeze plugs are located?

Update:
Ok, I thought I'd add a little water to the radiator and see if I could track down the source of the leak. Once I broke the seal on the cap water started dripping on its own. Because of where my jack stand was I couldn't get a clear view, but it appeared as if it was coming from the front of the bell housing (which doesn't seem to make sense to me).
There is a gap between the back of the oil pan and the front plate of the transmission. The water was clearly running down the front plate of the transmission.

Thanks! All the signs point to the plug on the back of the block. Unless I'm mistaken, I'll need to drop the transmission in order to get to it. I currently don't have to time to invest in a project of that magnitude so I'll have to park the ol' girl until I have more free time.

Was that picture with the snow taken here in the AV?
