so i bought my car about a month ago, i was actually laid off of work for a week when i bought my car. its an awesome 87 GT with MAF conversion and a rebuilt 5.0 . the drivetrain has been giving me a run around with a list of problems that me and my mechanich are trying to budget fix. i replaced the extremely stiff clutch with a ram clutch and my mechanich found that the release bearing inside the trans is screwed, along with the rod inside the bearing. my synchro's are toast and the guy who had it before me had to of been non clutch jamming the gears. so a used gearbox is going to be going in it asap. i also had to replace the yolk on the driveshaft that goes into the trans, it was MESSED up. it ruined a 24 hour trans seal and the old bushing looked like i took a grinder with a pyramid shape bit and stuck it inside it. lol.

so i picked it up from the shop last night and started dogging it home. SO MUCH smoother. the clutch was done last week and the driveshaft done this friday. almost all of the shaking and rattling i was experiencing is gone. AWESOME! i live in st. pete, and was deciding rather i wanted to take me and my fiance to daytona for the night or drive down to arcadia and hit the windy roads and farm country. she didnt want to go to daytona, so after buying some energy drinks getting some free Hungry Howies from my buddy we were off to I41. 41 was a drag too many people lights, it was miserable. lol. but once we got on 70 heading to arcadia i was the only person on a lightless highway. testing the limits of my car, spending the first time on the highway with my girl. it was an awesome night. passing trucks, going fast, going faster. i liked driving with my foggers on they really revealed that dark highway and are awesomely bright.

my first night with my car was an awesome 200+ mile trip that lead me to nowhere and took 4 hours but all in all was the perfect end to a long week.:nice::nice:

Hungry Howies, damn man!!! I have not had their food in FOREVER!!! There was one here in my hometown years ago, hadnt thought about their food until now :)

They had some kind of steak and cheese sandwich that was A++++++++

yeah she was laughing at me every time i was redlined in OD. i would have this serious face on concentrating on my loose steering wheel. let off slow back down to about 3 grand and just start grinning. oh it was kick as

Didnt **** used to be blocked? At least you can say ass hole. :nice:
You damn bitch ass **** gobling bastard. :D

Note: I was not calling anyone here that nor did I use any non approved StangNet words. :D

Edit: My bad. Thought **** was allowed since you can say cockpit.

well i am not sure exactly what redlined you are talking about. but, i stop pulling at 6,100 rpm and i was in OD at 5,600 to me that pretty close to redlined IMO. i dont know the thing has quite a bit of performance on it. it is a lot quicker and stronger than any other 5.0 i have been in, rode in, or four wheeled in. and those vehichles were "some what stockish"

Which is why I said you must have 4.10s or higher in it. IDK what size tire you have but a T-5 in 5th gear with a 245/45/16 tire at 5600 rpm and 4.10 gears means you were going 147 MPH.

If you had stock gears then you would be going 196 MPH and we all know that just aint gonna happen. :rlaugh:

Not raggin on ya, there are many times I have gone well North of 150. I was just curious what the rear gear was.

oh my bad i was on my 8th? budweiser when i wrote that up. yeah i am not sure what kind of gears the previous owner put in. i would like to know. i was thinking 3.73's but i am not sure. i couldnt even ball park how fast i was going cause i have no speedo... at all. i would like one that went up to like 160 but i know thats messing around with the trans and thats just something i dont want to do. trans internals scare me and my wallet

yeah i heard of that. i will try and do that sometime here soon. i dont think i will have time today to borrow a jack and stands. my girl has me busy and im going to see Judas Priest for my birthday. metal.

There is nothing you have to do in the trans to put a SSP cluster in there. If the speedo is not even twitching then I would check two things. First jack the car up and look on the drivers side of the trans. You will see a cable going into the side of it that is held in place by this small clip and a single bolt (8mm I think). Unbolt it and slide it out there should be a gear on it that wears quickly if its for 4.10s or 4.30's. See if the gear is there or if its broken/stripped.
It should look like this but 1/4 the size and it can be white, black, red, yellow etc etc depending on rear gear.

If it is not broken and its there then you need to pull the cluster and clip the cable back into the speedometer. They do come loose sometimes.
Now if the speedo does twitch and that gear is OK then most likely the cable is snapped.

Now as I said, the speedo gear color should tell you what gear is in there but people put the wrong one in all the time. :nonono: I can tell you what gear you have though pretty easy. Get a buddy with a car and find someplace you can pace him. For instance have him do 40MPH and stay right with him in 4th gear. You can post it here or PM me but tell me how many RPMs you were turning at 40mph (or any speed really) in 4th gear and tell me your tire size. As long as I have those numbers I can tell you what gear you have.
So say you are going 40mph in 4th gear and turning 2250rpm and you have 245/45/16 tires then you have 4.10 gears. :nice:
