My friend has a 91 5.0. He is looking at doing a few upgades. he has a question..

I was looking at upgrading my 5.0 with a H/C/I upgrade and i got a question about heads...are the GT-40 X "turbo swirl" heads as good or even better flowing than the name brand companies of AFR, Edelbrock, or twisted wedge? they are supposed to be better flowing than the original GT-40 heads and the specs are as follows
-the intake is 1.94", exhaust 1.54"
-the intake port volume is 178 cc, exhaust=62cc
-approx 25 pounds lighter than each cast iron GT-40 heads

i'm not positive but if i was gonna get gt40 heads i would buy iron heads and have them ported and save a ton of money. the turbo swirl heads are supposed to be the best gt40 though.

The "X" heads are made of aluminum which makes them lighter. I doubt they outperform any Eddy, AFR or Trickflow tho...

I'm fairly certain I've read flow test reports comparing
most of the popular heads, and although the X heads
are better than the other GT heads, as far as I remember
they don't stand up to the AFRs and other good aftermarket brands.

You can go to allfordmustangs.com and compare for yourself. http://www.allfordmustangs.com/Detailed/630.shtml But from the looks of it, I'd say they are close but the exhaust side kills the GT40 line of heads.

They're about 10cfm down on the intake side compared to AFR 165s. The all-ford site's X303 numbers look like Y numbers. Way off of X numbers.
