Front ATS brakes with Taurus rear brakes. Full parts needed?

Hello all.. this is my first post on here. Just bought a 1980 Ford Thunderbird which was my first car back in 1999 so clearly I'm going through a midlife crisis.
Regardless, I have plans for this car and as far as this post is concerned I am looking to swap the entire brake system. I'm more or less looking to confirm that I have the correct parts via my research front the correct vehicles.

Fronts- Cadillac ATS Calipers on cobra rotors
Rears- Taurus calipers on sn95 rotors

If you could please double check that my parts listed below are correct and please help me out with any more parts I'd need. Thanks in advance.

Spindles (sn95)
13" front rotors (sn95 cobra)
4 piston front calipers from Cadillac ATS using s&s engineering kit
Brake booster (95 mustang v6)
Master cylinder 1 1/16" bore (95 mustang v6)
Rear caliper bracket- Cardone 141028- (98 mustang)
Rear calipers (93-98taurus)
Rear rotors (sn95)

Am I wrong on any of these or missing anything?

Also is there some preferred brake fluid to use?

Thanks

There's a lot more you are missing in terms of misc fittings, brake hoses, banjo bolts, etc. This thread below has some good info to read up on that might steer you towards a more complete list.

One thing you didn't specify is which SN95 rear disk setup you were going with? There is a GT and Cobra kit. I recommend Cobra if you are going with the ATS fronts.

Couple points for you to think about first as you put this setup together.

  • Will the ATS brembos fit with your wheels of choice? They don't clear a lot of wheels so something you should make sure first before committing. I have a set of ATS brembos on my shelf collecting dust because they do not clear any of the wheels I run/like. Cobra brakes, especially with a good pad like a Hawk HPS or EBC pad are more than enough for the fact majority of street cars, and will clear pretty much every 17" wheel out there popular for Mustangs. Just something to consider.
  • Out back, reconsider the 43mm calipers and stick with the 38mm options. These cars really don't need more brake in the rear, and on a light rear end and no ABS it can get you in trouble fast in a quick stab sort of panic stop. I do know of several folks who have had this unfortunate experience so my default recommendation is 38mm>43mm. Now, if you can calculate out and think though your brake bias, weight distribution, have a car with forward offset control arms, an IRS, etc, feel free to make your own educated decision. My point is to try and avoid the "If you run ATS brembos you NEED 43mm calipers" sort of default thinking.

Understood. Very very helpful thanks.

I just bought this car. So other than seat extension brackets and some minor paint work I'm tackling the brakes first. Or at least purchasing first.

Plan for the car is a iron block 6L ls single turbo with 8hp70 or mayyybe t56 and 8.8 rear. Likely going to run an 18" wheel on the front but a 17" at bare minimum. But the wheels themselves have not been purchased yet. That's likely to be one of my last purchases.

Goal for the car is to break into the 8s eventually. Likely more like mid 9s if I run the t56 but leaning towards the 8hp. On e85 running a drag radial. Street driven, drag n drive capable, has ac/defrost/stereo. Caged. Lowered. Basically a poor mans pro touring car if there's such thing.

As for rear brakes I'd likely go with the gt rotors to open up my rear wheel options a tad. Rear diff will be narrowed to hopefully run wheels with more of a dish than the typical 15x10 with 6 or 6.5" backspacing.

It's a large undertaking and truth be told I've only ever built goodies previously.

Car will have tubular member, adjustable a arms, drop spindles, tubular front end, antiroll bar, stock style fuel tank. Stock interior other than the floor Shifter. If I can make a column shift with with 8hp70 I'm all over that
