front brakes

my passenger side front brake isnt applying as much pressure as my driver side. after a 15 min cruise with moderate braking i come home and i can really feel the heat coming off the driver side front brakes, and if i touch the caliper it is really hot, the passenger side is working but isnt nearly as hot as the other side. this tells me that the driver side front is working alot harder.

what could be causing this?

a partially seized caliper, bad slide pins, bad ball joint, etc.

Gonna have to take it apart and diagnose it. I would NOT drive it like that.

ball joints are new, slide pins are new, pads are in great shape, rotors are less then a month old.

should i just get some remanufactured calipers? and my problem should go away?

Just go get a new caliper and bleed the brakes. Calipers are cheap...under $20.

since im replacing the passenger side one, i might as well do the driver side while im at it.

Up to you if you want.

Calipers don't need to be replaced in pairs. You can replace them individually. It's the wearable parts like rotord and pads that must be done in pairs.

Get speed bleeders while you are at the parts store. They make the job so much easier.

ill just replace both, maybe the side that is getting hotter is the culprit and the other side is working fine. i dont know so ill just replace both of them.

how does the brake line come off of the caliper?

what are speed bleeders? do they just screw into the hole where the bleeder screw goes?


it seems like every friggin week something is getting me with this car, ive had my MGW shifter sitting in my room for 3 weeks not installed yet cuz every time i go to install it something gay like this comes up.. last week it was the ignition switch/ some wires that burned, this week this. Im starting to hate my car.

once this brake problem is fixed I will love it again though. hopefully nothing else goes wrong long enough so i can get my shifter installed, and hopefully new calipers fixes the problem.

Just a bolt. All you need to do is unscrew it. The calipers should come with new banjo bolt washers (copper washers)

The speed bleeders just replace the stock one and will allow you to bleed the brakes alone. Just attach a hose to it, open the bleeder and pump the pedal.

I like to do them both myself, but sometimes it comes back and burns you -- like when you get a brand new one that hangs up.

well lets hope for the cars sake, that both new calipers solve my problem. If not i just may have to sell the stang. i am getting tired of sinking money into this thing.

don't forget your brake hose, they collapse internally and prevent fluid from going through. so do those too while your at it,definately worth the money. and if your gonna do that just get the steel braided lines, they help pedal feel under heavy braking.

ok i went and bought a new caliper for the passenger side, and ordered one for the drivers because they didnt have it in stock. Installed the passenger side one, bled the brakes and took it for a cruise. this one is working better then the old one it replaced i think the old one was partially siezed. so now all i have to do is wait till monday for the other caliper as im sure the drivers side is in just as bad of shape as the passenger side was (ripped dust boot, ect)

ok so i replace the driver side caliper today, went alot smoother then the first one, since i already did one of em and figured out how not to get fluid everywhere.. tightened everything back up, bled the brakes and BEAUTIFUL!!! no more annoying squeeking and no more one side getting hotter then the other.

now its time to get my MGW shifter installed!
