Front End Suspension Help

Hey, so I have a 1970 Mustang Grande and my front tires have been squealing and wearing really fast and when I took the car to the local shop to get the tires alligned he said that I "need front end suspension work" and that he couldn't allign the tires but he tried anyways and made it worse. I can see where the bushings for drivers side lower control arm have been smashed and it bent the part where they connect to the frame. The moron at the tire shop refused to say anything but front end suspension work. What exactly do I need to do and dont say take it to a mechanic cause I got sick of getting screwed over and I do all my own work now, regaurdless of difficulty.
Thanks for the input!
Tim

If you want to be certain exactly what needs to be replaced you have to tear it apart and examine the pieces. Check the ball joints. Probably the upper control arms are going to be toast if it's been a while since you've been in there. I really despise Ford's design UCA. They seem to loosen up and squeak very quickly - at least with the way I drive. :D

Might be a good time to put roller bearings in there, at least in the spring perches. Opentracker Racing Products!

Just put a stock pair of upper arms in there, a stock pair of lower arms in, open tracker roller perches, a new set of nice shocks and a decent size sway bar with some fresh bushings. Oh ya, and don't forget to replace your strut rod bushings.

Now, how good of a mechanic are you ? What kind of tools do you have ? Do you have any friends that are good at working on cars ?

I have a 69 coupe and had similar problems. I changed the whole front end (ball joints, bushing, tie rods, the whole deal). Afterwards it was better, but still no good. It would be fine for a little while and then do the same thing. Turns out, the problem was a crack in the shock tower. I know, I know the shock towers suck. The crack was allowing the control are to move a little bit, thus changing the alignment. I repaired the tower got it re-aligned and it has been fine.
Check it real close make sure you are not missing something like that.

Good Luck!
