Well i bought the cara few weeks ago and havent drove it much and yesterday i really drove around for the first time an realized the front tires scrub on the actual strut tower. They are 17 in cobra wheels.(4lug) with 245/45/17 tires. Would a 235 scrub or do i need to get different wheels for the front.

I'm afraid people are going to need more details and pics to answer. And still there are no guarantees.

WHat year and model do you have? And where does it touch exactly. The strut tower is up top...kinda hard for tire to rub there

You can always add some Rack Limiters, it will stop the rubbing but will add slightly to your turning radius.

i got 18 cobra r with 235/40 and it rubs my swar bar if i turn it all the way. If it does the same thing with 17 i might as well keep 18s haha

Not sure what he/she is talking about. Don't see how the tire could rub the strut tower. Maybe he/she meant the strut itself ?? shrugs. Either way, 245/45/17 is an awful wide tire for the front. Now, me, i'm on stock 16" ponies with 225/55/16 on the front. I have the Eibach Pro kit lowering springs and struts. The tires don't rub the fender, fender well liner or the strut. But, the passenger side tire WILL rub the sway bar if I turn left more than 90% of the way. The tire sidewall hits it. Good thing I noticed because I wasn't feeling or hearing anything.

its a 88 gt. And yes i meant the actual strut not the strut tower. when i turn either way the top of the rim/tire scrubs it to the point where it will stop the car.

it sounds like u have the wrong offset or too wide of wheel and the 2454517 is the o.e. size tire for the 17s i would check the wheel bearing to make sure that there not too loose b/c that will cause the wheel to move also check to see if the wheels aren't differnt sizes front and back hope this helps u out i have 2554017 on the front of mind and they dont rub

I have 245/45/17 tires on 17X9 Cobra R's and don't have a problem with them on my '87. They do rub a little on the inner fender well on a sharp turn, but rub on nothing else.
I wounder if you are having a camber issue that would cause them to scrubb the strut?

yea.. you should re-check the camber..because i had that problem.. thats when i installed a camber kit and had it professionally aligned.. it fixed the rubbing
