Frozen Smog Pump, Leaking Tube From Head- Removed Emissions Equipment

So my emissions equipment was in pretty bad shape...my smog pump was frozen and the metal tube that runs from my heads to my air lines was leaking badly.

I already run an off-road H-pipe.

So, I figured I had no need for the AIR system at this point, and bypassed the smog pump with a short belt. I cut the steel tube from the heads and capped it tight. I yanked all of the rubber lines which connected the heads/pump/tube to converters. I removed the metal tube which ran from the smog pump to the H-pipe, and capped the bung on the H-pipe. I capped all of the vacuum lines.

Since there didn't appear to be any electrical connections here, I assumed I'd be fine computer wise...but reading in the 5.0 Tech section, it seems that doing what I did can have effect my computer's tune and put it into "limp mode".

Is there truth to this? Am I okay?

I don't think you should have a problem. The system is purely mechanical so I don't know how the computer would go into limp mode.

Pulled my smog out of the way with no problems.

There's a "thermactor present" setting in the ECU I turned off a few weeks after this. Didn't notice a lick of difference before or after but it bears mentioning that the setting is there.

Shawn, that is one smog thread to NOT reference. We dont know what he's talkin about (as I bet you didnt either).

It shouldn't cause the engine management to go into FMEM or limp mode or anything else. You will toss a code for the TAB/TAD's but that should be it. If you read further in other threads, I think you'll see that half the 5.0 Tech section runs no AIR system and though they get codes, they seem to suffer no ill effects (including the guys who datalog).

Thanks for the feedback guys. Very relieving to hear.

I do wonder how the computer knows the AIR system is working at all (in order to throw a code when it's disconnected)? Those magical EEC's...

It started to squeal LOUD, so I stopped the car before anything could be damaged.

lol back when i did the lifters and the intake my car sat in a barn for about a year. Started it up and it started squealing loud. We all stood there looking at it going what the ****? Then my bro in law started yelling turn it off. The belt ended up eating away most of the pulley. Finding one of them pumps is a bitch. I got mine off of Zach (1105) he had his laying around

OT - When you delete the smog pump, aren't there one or two vacuum lines that connect up with the air lines? What do you do about those?
