FRPP front control arms

In two weeks I will be doing the cobra brake conversion on my '92 LX. While I have the front end apart, I am thinking I should replace the ball joints. Then I got to thinking that since the car is getting old, so are the bushings in the front control arms so I should just replace the whole control arm.

Does anyone have any experience with the FRPP front control arms and does it really help with ride quality?

Is it a worthwhile purchase?

Would you change the control arms out if you were me seeing as I will not be going with a tubular control arm anytime soon/ever?

I just don't want any alignment issues over time, so I guess I am answering my own questions but any opinions would be re-assuring.

You should just replace the control arm bushings. If you are going to replace the ball joints you'd be better off getting the SN95 joints, not the oem ones for your 92.

Yeah I would also just replace the bushings. Burn the stock rubber ones out with oxy acetylene if you are equiped or find someone who is because it takes no time at all to burn them out with that setup. Propane takes FOREVER. You could try mapp gas which burns hotter than propane. When thats all done paint the arms and press some new ball joints in. Pick yourself up some poly bushings and your set. On mine I used mobile 1 synthetic grease instead of the lube prothane provided. No squeakin at all.

Were it me, I'd want the new arms. If doing BJ's and LCA bushings, they're a deal IMHO. The bushings are a decently stiff durometer rating and the BJ's are much improved vs stock.

Thanks for the opinions guys! Looks like the concensus is to just change the ball joints and bushings and not spend the $175 on the FRPP control arms.

Justin, again it depends on what joints you get. Its not going to be 175 for the joints and bushings. but is your time worth the extra maybe 50 bucks to not just get the brandy new ones with those things already there. just another thought. I like the work and if it would save me 50 bucks then I would do the joints and bushings if there is nothing wrong with the arms.

I plan to get the Cobra brake conversion done in 2 days with the help of a friend of mine so maybe just spending the $179 would save me a bit of time to help get the job done in 2 days. Maaaaaaaaaaaan, now I am back to square one. What you said does make a lot of sense though.

If anyone else has opinions, fire away.

Good point as well. My time is pretty limited because we are doing the project at my friends parents house because he has a lift in his barn style garage (his dad races cars and sells tools for a living). I also need my car the following week, after the alignment of course.

FINAL DECISION: I AM BUYING THE CONTROL ARMS. It's only money right!?

I did the Lower A Arms while doing my Brake Conversion, you are money and time ahead by buying the new FMS Arms.

Quick Question: Where are you guys finding the Ford Racing front control arms for $175. i've been looking and Jeggs and Summit have them for $299. Any suggestions would help.

I just ordered the FRPP control arms two days ago w/ the improved ball joint from 5.0resto at 299, I too would like to know where this $175 set can be found!

The price must have went up since last summer. I ordered mine through summit. They were like $199??

I think you will be very happy you chose to replace the arms. I was in the same boat you are, and decided to go with the FR arms....mainly because I wanted to save the time. I figured for the extra time and PITA it would have been to change the ball joints and the bushings, I might as well get the arms. Plus the arms are slightly stronger than the OEM stock ones, so it was WELL worth it to change.

I replaced my Lower control arms with the FRPP versions and remember paying the 175.00 but that was several years ago. I also paid 169 for the FRPP aluminum drive shaft and we all know the price of that has gone up. Usually prices go up when there is a demand for something.

Also, when I replaced my lower arms, I noticed that I could not get the car aligned properly. I had someone install for me and did not measure. I was told by another shop that the arms are longer, throwing out the camber. I would like to know if this IS TRUE, If you can do a measurement of both arms when you do the install 1Slowefiveoh that would be helpfull. I ended up having to install Camber/Caster plates to get the car properly aligned.

175 is for the 94-04 arms....they improved them to the 03-04 style for all year Mustangs.....the 87-93 arms are improved to 94-98 standards, but they are still 300 bucks.

If you had new arms and they were a different size, they probably gave you M-3075-D instead of M-3075-A.
