Fuel Injected 460??

to be honest what I really wanted was a 514. I know its crazy but again how many do you see. they range from 7500-10,000 depending on what you get with the crate motor. I just want something different. I hate being another run of the mill Mustang with a 302, 306, 331,347 you get the picture. I'm tired of tearing mine done replacing stupid **** then putting it back together then going through it all a few months later. If you buy a crate 302 or a fully rebuild 302 its gonna be about 1500. So why not just build up something unique. I'm sure you know where I'm coming from with your 414. Even if i bought a 460 for a few hundrend then put a 1000 bucks into rebuilding it it would still be an awesome car with a lot of power and somethng that was thought of out of the box so to say

It'll be a torque monster that's for sure! IMHO, you'll probably be happier with a stock or mild 351w. It'll probably cost about the same as the 460 swap you're looking into, but should be a whole lot easier to pull off.

A built 460/514 would be bad ass. A stock truck motor probably won't be. At least throw a few mods at it if you're going through all the trouble to install it.

Also, whatever amount you're expecting to spend on this project, add at least a $1000 to it and that's how much you'll end up spending.

i think i understand where your comin from, i say go for it.

basically you just wanna get this motor in there without spending a ton of $$ and then later down the road you can sink some real cash on it and make it a beast

I'd say go for it, the earlier 69-71 429/460 had more hp and torque. You could use the older heads (dove) say until you could buy some nice aluminum ones. Might be a heavy motor, but the torque would make it alot of fun to drive.

Not sure but couldn't you get a built c4, with a bellhousing for a bigblock?

The main thing Myster Machine is saying and I agree is that he wants something different thatn everyone else, has the potential to ROCK and not too expensive to get going. If he knows what he is doing then go for it! But like Mike says, do your research 1st including trans ( are you happy with auto), headers, clearances, fitment, radiator , carb hookup (includes redoing the fuel system and tank setup, hood clearance, belts (my nightmare)..springs, etc..

390ft # of torque will hit the back end of our stangs like a wrecking ball @2200 (notice low end) and blam him out to 60 mph without the need for much hp lol!! Notice also the 230HP @ 3600rpm...it's got another 3000rpm to develope there which is good for ALOT more HP when he has the cash to put into the proper heads, cam intake!! I say just do your research 1st and then make sure you can get it inthe car without a lot of $$ if you know some short cuts and then you have something to build on. :)

Look at me, I am at approx 420HP @4700rpm. Once I put the proper intake on my car, I will be well over 500HP! But I almost dony need it or care because the tq blows me out to 60mph before the HP barely kicks in lol. Its great with big c.i. motors. I have always wanted to do 460 but I had to cut the budget somewhere and that was 2k more than I wanted. (add $1k like Mike said = $3k)

Yeah, if the plan is to build it up later I say go for it. I now Jinx really wants something different for his car, and I can't say I've seen many BBF SN-95's. My thinking was a stock 460, which is what 150-200# heavier? wouldn't be much faster than say a GT-40 headed 351w.(Cobra R anyone?) I was just thinking short term...If Jinx's long term goal is monster 460/514, go for it!

ok only thing that I'm not liking here is the talk of an auto. My car will never go auto. Thats one thing that I love about the car. its so much fun shifting through the gears. Now with that said what kinda tranny would I be looking at that would handle something that big and still fit?

Nice! Oh, also, won't the HP and TQ be higher on the stang? I mean, the drive shaft length and drive line be longer on a 1990 truck (especially a big truck carrying the 460ci). That equates to a parasitic loss of power. Meaning I think he would gain some nice HP back after transplanting that into a stang. We should probably also subtract the cats and emissions that wouldn't be put on the stang.. I bet he would be closer to 300 HP .. or more with very little modfication?

I am trying to remember but 150-200# is roughly good for .2 tenths at the track. That's not too big of a loss. That's like 20 HP I think.

BTW, I am not old...but I remember a truck at work that had one of those 460's in it. .. it was a roll back 1990 if if remember , LOOONG vehicle, lol! It got OUT from the start too man.

wow you guys are great. I figured everybody woudl be all no don't do it, it will be to much and be too heavy.

Poka thats another consideration I have. Where I live we have emissions. I'd like to make it so it would pass if at all possible so it has to have all the **** on there. What good is it if I can't drive it

my first stang was a 85 v6. My dad bought it for 800 bucks. We talked to my garage guy and he was like "you bought that thing? it has no emissions stuff on it so i won't even look at it. Only thing its good for is sell it or make a drag car" So we traded it in on the 66.

Theres so many damn decsions. After all the help you guys have been and you all seem excited for me to do it I'd hate to change my mind and go in a different direction. It would be so much easier if i had a garage where I could rebuild **** over time and not be rushed into anything like I am now.

I also need another job to fund this project. Problem is we elected a new cheif at the fire house and I'm hoping for anofficer spot so I don't want to screw myself by getting a job to where I won't be around. Being an officer has been a dream of mine forever. I won't find anything out till the end of the year though
