Before I get beat up this is about brand X... but it seems to me there are some knowledgable people on here that could lurn me on what scares me, Fuel injection....
People trying to convince me to go LS in my " other" project ( chevy).....
Was told to look at some aftermarket injection systems ( buy an LS3 long block instead of a complete crate engine) and use something like this, as they have a bit more WOW to them when the hood pops..
So my question(s)...
If I was to buy the Summit injection system attached here.....
It says ECM included.. So the computer is included??
Fuel system - NONE Does this mean I would need to buy injectors and such??
ignition system- NONE.. does this mean the included ECM ONLY runs the Fuel injection but NOT the ignition or that i need to buy sparkplugs and coil packs..
Power distribution- NONE ????????
I could save around $2500 using this instead of the stock chevy/ECM/intake besides the Looks good bling....

Any one help me out here some???

Included means it comes with it.
None means it does not have it in the kit.

Multi-Port Fuel Rails Included: Yes
Injector Size (lbs/hr): 55 lbs./hr.
Oxygen Sensor Included: Yes

Fuel Pressure Regulator Included: No

You would still need plugs and coils and all that stuff.

From the destructions:

The system also comes with a stainless steel oxygen sensor bung, target AFR and timing control, two fan control outputs, 12 volt square-wave tach output driver for most tachometers and a speedometer output driver for most electric speedometers. The system is compatible with LS1-LS3 24X or58X crank sensors, 1X or 4X cam sensors, and compatible with both car and truck ignition coils. Wiring the system is made easy with a custom wiring harness that uses existing factory coil packs and sub harnesses. The Max LS ECU System comes with a knock sensor control and is custom cam friendly. Included are several preset timing curves that are each tailored for different camshafts, final drive gearing, and vehicle weight.

I dropped the product instructions below.

This one from Summit has an rpm range of 4,500 to 8,500 so may be a dog below that, not sure. The low profile one is 4,000 to 8,000 rpm so not much loss on the top end and the curve moves down a little. I've seen several sources say the Summit Racing™ MAX-efi 500 Fuel Injection System
is made by Fitech exclusively for Summit so that is a plus as they have a decent reputation. Have no idea who is making the ECU for the system you listed. That would be a bid deal for me as I would want them to partner with a known EFI company.

For me I would just get a stock 5.3 change the cam and put a Holley Terminator X on it and move on. Will perform well, drive very well, and if later down the road you want to put a turbo on it then you have that ability. The tuning community for the Terminator X is pretty big as well so if you needed some help setting it up and even finding someone in FL to tune it on a dyno would be a lot easier.

Bottom line, is the included ECM all I need for engine management??

If I was to go this way, it would be simpler for me to stick with a SBC 350 or 383, a carb and a tach drive distributor ( corvette).

You could go old school SBC with a fuel injection kit that goes on a carb intake

The goal with me wasn't going fuel injection as much as modernizing to an LS engine.... I looked at adding a distributor and using a Carburetor on an LS... Yes they make both kits.. Kit uses a Ford Distributor on the front of the engine......
My questions today were getting some help understanding Fuel Injection 101....
If my Fat Boy was carbureted ( as I ordered it in 06) it would be running instead of broken in my garage for the last 3 years... But the dealer had a FI model in stock and talked me into it...... Just saying

Old guy to old guy.
Don't stress, go with the most modern engine (LS) and pick what's comfy to work on, you're gonna WANT to drive this junk, EFI can and is plug and play for the most part, the tuning may be a beneficial education, think EFI scooter issue.
OR go with carb, this is (mostly) plug and play too. And can be very dependable and fun to drive, my friend had a 55 shoebox, mild 350 with a Edelbrock carb and never touched it for years. He also ran non-ethanol fuel
I have to ask a question, 'do you fell lucky, PUNK? Wait, wrong question......
What happens when (talking about the EFI setup) total power loss over an extended period of time?
Is there a point where the system has to be 'reloaded' and is it a thumbdrive deal or requires laptop? Holley has the screen thing but do you have to start the tuning process over?
All that to say I'd go with modern components, equipment that you can repair with stuff from a corner parts store,
Oh, and dump that Harley junk in my back yard, I prolly could fix it.

I have a carb setup on my T-Bird and at some point I am going to remove it and move on to EFI. It seems like after every winter I have to put a kit in the carb to make it run "right". That is getting old and in my opinion EFI is just easier to tune. Just being able to get into the car, turn the key, and go drive it makes it worth the investment.
