fuel pump questions

i have a 67 mustang with a 351w with these mods:
trick flow twisted wedge heads
holley 750
weiand stealth intake
comp cams extreme energy 274h cam
roller rockers
electronic ignition
c-4
8.8" rearend with 3.73

right now i have a stock carter fuel pump on it. i ran a 14.4 @ 93 mph. would the fuel pump not be able to keep up because i think my times should be faster

Well, there's 3 things you could do here..

1) If your good at reading plugs, check them immediately after a 1/4 mile run. Look for signs of a lean fuel mixture. If it is indeed lean, and you know your carb is setup properly, then it's probably starving for fuel.

2) Hook up a fuel pressure guage. If the pump can maintain 4psi or better, it shouldn't be a problem.

3) Throw in a high volume pump and forget about it.

The fuel presure gauge is a must to see whats going on. If your using the stock fuel tank and lines with filters, that might be a problem too. There should be a sock on the end of the sending unit in the tank. And depending on what type of inline fuel filter your using could be restricking it some too. But without a gauge to see what the pressure is doing during the run its hard to say. I have 1/2" metal fuel line from the tank to the front.

I had an old Chrysler Cordoba that I put in a mild 440 with a stock fuel pump. About 6-7 seconds after nailing it, it would start surging. Let off it & it was fine. Replaced the stock pump with a high flow Carter pump and the problem was solved. So, I would think that if the pump isn't keeping up, you'd definately notice it with a power drop, surge, or as situation where can't rev past certain point.

Maybe you're lower than expected ET is more tuning related??? Regardless, I'd put the high flow pump in.
