ok so i have the infamous cold start bucking problem and the car has a CE light i went to a mechanic and they pulled these codes off the eec

113 Intake Air Temperature/Air Charge Temperature Sensor Circuit Above Maximum Voltage

212 Loss Of Ignition Diagnostic Module Input To PCM/SPOUT Circuit Grounded

542 Fuel Pump Circuit Open–PCM To Motor Ground

what are the odds that since two of the three codes mention the pcm specifically that its bad?

Test your ECT at room temp (if below about 50*F, the readings can be erronious) and at operating temp. The ECT is a thermistor, so voltage and resistance are linear.

The latter two codes have one commonality: The PIP. If the PIP burps, the fuel pump loses its signal (the PIP signal is what tells the FP to work). Note that if you do something strange like stall the car, that can generate the FP code.

I'd inspect the wiring going into the dizzy (a known issue spot) and the PIP itself (remove the cap and rotor). Run a magnet around inside the dizzy bowl. If it picks up ferrous metal, that is a sign that the PIP or dizzy bushing is going bad. Otherwise I clean the PIP with electrical contact cleaner and put it back together.

Though these codes leave the possibility of stalling (dont be making a left turn in front of cars, etc), I might also reset the codes and drive the car to see what codes come back. Of course, a closed course is optimal for this (the local empty parking lots on a weekend, etc). I just do laps around my block.

Good luck.
