G-force Vs Tremec???

I looked at both and ended up going with the Tremec. The G-force is obviously good for the weight savings and also being able to keep the stock housing. I went with the tremec b/c I got a good deal on it and I also didn't want to spend all that money (very close to tremec) and walk away with something that looked like my stock tranny ... sad but true

600 ft-lbs with upgraded mainshaft, same as the tremec.

as its been stated numerous times, the t5 casing is the weak point in a g-force transmission. as far as i know, there is no weak point in the tremec.

Ive went through two T5's, my friend Andy has went through 3, never seen a cracked case. All of them were because of the sycro's or clutch forks giving out. Thats 5 T5's, none of them cracked, all went out due to the internals.

88stangboy, those are stock t5's... we are talking about g-force t5's... obviously on a stock t5 everything is gonna break before the case goes, but on a 750 ft-lb track monster, who knows what would happen

obviously many of us are not making the kind of power that it would require to snap a t5 case, so really the choice is yours.... it's about 1920 bucks for all the gearset, mainshaft, input shaft, and rebuild kit to build your own g-force, 2000 bucks (without upgraded mainshaft) to send your to them and have them build it (plus shipping), as opposed to 1649 for a TKO, 200 bucks for a bellhousing, and IIRC you need a 26 spline clutch too, so there's another 150 or so for a clutch disc, but you'll be adding another 50 lbs or so and will need a differet short shifter than the one you've already got (as the stock tko ones are crap i've heard)

choose your doom

I got a good deal on my tremec TKO from a dude on here. If I was buying new, i'd probably go with a G force mainly because of the .59 5th gear ratio since i'm planning on a steep gear (4.30) so it'll rev low on the highway. Also weight would be another reason.

I dunno if the case on the T-5 is the weakpoint, but the TKO 600 case, is very very beefy.

To put into perspective the weight difference, I was able to pick my T-5 up over my head and throw it, the TKO 600, I had to get my brother to help me carry it out to the garage.

The T-5 was about 40-60lbs, the TKO600 is 117lbs.

I L-O-V-E my TKO600, if it ever breaks, Im just going to do straight cut gears, the thing is an absolute beast. Ive yet to miss a shift with it, and I had a pro 5.0 on my old t-5, the stock 6 bolt shifter on the TKO makes it look like a joke.

Lol the stock TKO shifter does not suck. Like I said, I had a pro 5.0 on my T-5 and the stock TKO shifter makes it look like a joke, it shifts like a porsche.

I debated the TKO vs. G-force for a while myself when I blew out my T-5. I went with the TKO 500 because I had just got a clutch, and the TKO 500 is a better more moderen transmission, you can really feel the difference when shifting, like said before. I haven't had any experience with a G-force but I am sure it is good as well.

If I make enough power to break a TKO, I'll probally get a built C4 to replace it.

What made the choice for me is some of my buddies and thier Camaro's with factory 10-bolts. One built his quite well and it just snapped anyways. It is said a built 10-bolt will hold even more power than a 12-bolt, so they just got built 12 bolts and are done with it. One has a Strange, one has a Moser, the Moser is beefier, but a lot heavier, but it's going to take one hell of a hit to break it. "So should I beef up a weak component, or just upgrade to a strong component". The choice to me was obvious.

Wow... this has been a great thread so far! I've still got my Super duty T5 installed but I'm sure that it's days will be numbered once Rick finished the new combo. I've been having the same internal debate. GFT5 or TKO.

You can't go wrong with either. G-force uses carbon synchro's and Tremec uses brass. So a G-force will shift smoother than a Tremec. But the brass does wear in and shifting gets better for the tremec.

G-force works with government areospace programs for precise tolerances on gear shafts, ect. G-force is a no joke company. The GF-5R looks sick but it's 5K

I picked tremec because of the gear ratio's.

A TKO600 vs. G-force with upgraded mainshaft and steel shift forks. That's a hard one.

TKO600>regular G-force JMO

I have seen numerous t5 cases split some in half some on the tail housing. Anyway I think I have some pic of at least on of them on my comp I will post up when I get time, if I still have them.
Imo buy a jerico if its mostly a strip car
