Gas/exhaust fumes entering car. What is it?

Ive been trying to figure out for weeks what the source of the leak is coming from. I thought I had an exhaust leak but a muffler shop said it was not an exhaust or anything related to the manifolds, cats, or mufflers. Ive visually checked the smog pump over and I cant tell where the odor is coming from. Its pretty bad and I leave the car smelling like exhaust every time I drive. What could it be? I cant find the source and no one locally has been able to figure it out. Please help.

(It doesn't do it when the car is cold if that helps any)

Stock exhaust....off road H-pipe....turn downs?

What kind of shape are your door seals, and/or rubber shifter boot in? Any holes in the floor or firewall?

I'm running stock exhaust, no H pipe, its not dumped out back but door seals could be replaced.....but the smell is pretty strong.

I will say I replaced the stock MAF a few months ago and it fixed it for a while but the smell came back. I'm clueless! lol

Lots of times it's the inner shift boot on the shifter missing or torn.

Stock thermostat? Colder than stock will make your exhaust stink. What's the pollution hardware like (particularily the plumbing located at the back of the heads)?

You know what? that makes a lot of sense. The hatch strip peeled a few months ago. Sounds about right! I'll replace it and give you guys the heads up if it fixes it. Thanks for the advice!!

there is a rubber type seal that bolts underneath the body up to the filler neck; it seals off the hatch area....check that...it is known to rot out

UPDATE: It was the weather strip. Problem is fixed, thanks everyone for the suggestions and tips!
