gas pedal question

All that you really have to worry about is that pedal to the metal is WOT on the throttle body.
Unless you are talking about a mechanical failure. The cable can wear and the more it wears, the weaker it will be.

Put a zip tie or two on the end of the throttle cable after the point where it comes through the pedal. That will raise the pedal and keep it from bottoming out. Be careful, though. If you do this, and you really wail on the gas, you could stretch your cable. Also, bringing the gas and brake to the same level can cause you to accidentally hit the gas pedal when you hit the brake if your foot's not 100% on the brake. This problem is worse if you have aftermarket (bigger) pedals.

Are you trying to arrange your pedals so that they're better positioned to "heel and toe"?

Some things to consider here. First, there should be a positive stop for the gas pedal. What you don't want is that stop to be through the cable when the throttle plate is wide open. Over time, that will result in a broken throttle cable. Ideally, you have an adjustable stop in the floor or further up the linkage which the pedal will hit limiting it's travel JUST AS the throttle plate hits wide open. This keeps the stress of hammering the pedal down off of the throttle cable. If you don't have one, they're usually pretty easy to make by drilling through the floor/carpet under the pedal, and installing a bolt that is 'nutted' on both sides of the floor so that you can adjust it's height.

Actually raising the gas pedal is usually a more difficult thing to do. You'll have to study the linkage to see if it's even possible. If heel and toe is what you're after, you want the gas pedal to be slightly lower than the brake pedal height when you're hard on the brakes. Often the brake pedal height can be adjusted with the shaft that goes into the master cylinder. Usually, the brake pedal needs to be lowered to position the pedals correctly for easy heel/toeing.

One of the nice things about most European cars is that they position them for that from the factory. I must confess, my Explorer with a manual tranny had the pedals perfectly positioned for easy heel and toeing. Every now and then you get surprised.

And if you don't even know what heel/toe is, then just ignore my ramblings.
