if its a five spd, i would go with the 4.10s an auto, no more then 3.55s. oh and yes youll need a new speedo gear, or you can spend the little bit of extra cash, adn get a speed calibrater for like 75 bucks. much more accurate and efficient

I've got 3.73s in my 02 and love 'em. For my tastes, I would see 4.10s as being too short. For others, 3.73s are too tall. It's really a subjective thing for most people (unless you're a hardcore drag racer and want to be nearing redline in 4th as you cross the traps and want a gear to get you there...)

I don't think you'll find an answer to "which is better": they have their good points and bad points. For me, with a daily driver with a certain amount of highway travel, I'm very happy with the 3.73s and am glad I didn't go any shorter. You'll probably get as many answers as there people with gears...

The deciding factors will probably be found in the answers to questions like: what RPM are you comfortable with on the highway at your cruising speed, what do you use the car for, what other mods do you have and so on.

For an 01 you should just be able to reprogram the PCM to fix the speedo, no?

i have 8.90 gears in my car. they are great out of the hole if you can keep traction. i can spin all the way to my rev limiter in 6th gear at 57 MPH!

8.90's hey? Do you have a 8 speed transmission to go along with those gears?

If he has an 01' GT as his screen name suggests, he can't use a speedo gear.

Thats correct. Only a speedo calibrator for 99.00 or a hand tuner will adjust speedo.

I have 4:10's in my 02 GT and do lots of highway driving. I would def go with 3:73's if youre 50/50 highway/street. If mostly street then def 3:73's. I'm at 2400 RPM's in 5th at 70MPH and 2700RPM's at 80. Hope that helps.
