GEAR???????

ok I know..well atleast around here anyway.....the first thing people do to 5.0s is put an exhaust and a gear.....well I have had a stock gear in my car since I have had it and realllly wanting a 3.73. I think it would wake it up ALOT. Can anyone find or give step by step instructions on how to install a gear? I know its alot but thanks guys for your help...can always count on you guys for free help lol:SNSign:

Honestly...and this might not be the advice you want to hear...but swapping gears is not a job for a novice. There is a lot more to it than simply unbolting a few things. I have never done gears myself, helped with a lot of swaps, but ever done them myself....and I don't plan on it. Too easy to screw up. I've done everything else to my car, but I won't touch gears.

That's just my opinion though.

Yeah I know but you will never learn if you never do it

gears are also one of the few things i have paid to have done. for multiple reasons. but anyways. i will probably be one of the few (or only!) to say a gear swap is not all it's hyped up to be. i agree it's a great mod, but the way a lot of people talk about it, seems like it's better than sex or something. definately not, but still worth it.

With as much power as you are making, i might be tempted to stick to a 3.27 or 3.55 gear. With 3.73's, unless you have some REALLY good tires, all you are gonna do is spin.

I installed my own gears even after everybody else told me I shouldn't. I agree with you, you'll never learn if you don't try. Just follow the procedures to a "T", don't skimp on anything, and you'll make it work. Read these walk-throughs before you tackle it too, to make sure you are prepared. Make sure you have sticky tires to back up the new torque the gears will give you at the wheels. Have fun and good luck! :nice:

haha the ford dealership told me $450 for the gears, and $900 for the install. i asked if he was kidding me, then followed up his reply with you guys are a ****ing joke and a hang up.
i think i paid like 350-400 for my install, (also with a new trac-lok)

That's dealer rate for replacing the gears. They must have looked up the OEM number for the gears rather than the motorsport number.

I think i paid $180 for my Ford racing gears, $175 for labor and maybe $20 in misc fluids and bearings
