Gears and Years

I wouldn't say im a complete newb, but I really have no clue when it comes to gears.

Are they interchangable between different years? I have a 2012 GT, manual with the basic 3:23s and I'd like to upgrade.

Will ones from an '05 work? My brother had an '05 Saleen S281 and I still have his stock gears (im guessing 3:55s). Would these work?

Also, will there even be a difference?
What's youre recommendation?

My thoughts are, free 3:55s or buying 3:73s. Maybe 4:10s... I just need decent mileage since this is still my college commuter for another year.

You can buy gears from 1984, all 8.8" gears work. I'd stay away from used sets though, new ones are cheap enough.

Yes, they will work. 3.73s are a big improvement without much sacrifice in the way of gas mileage.
