Get me to 300 rwhp

Port and polish the heads and intake. Shave a bit off the heads to increase compression ratio if you're going to stay N/A and it won't create piston/valve interference. Not sure what ratio rockers come with the motor but 1.72's roller rockers would help (if not already on there).

65mm TB should be big enough.

Underdrive pulleys to squeeze the last amount out of it and then a full 2.5" exhaust with high-flow H- or X-pipe to go with those headers.

And then, depending on budget, you could get a custom cam based on the ported/polished heads and your desires. However, I still really like the E cam.

And, lastly, you might have better results with a different MAF meter. Pro-M 75mm bullet or something like that..

Thanks

Thanks to you all for the advice. To SVT32, I haven't dynoed the car, so I'm not sure what I getting right now. I planned on waiting until I made any additional mods.

The exhaust chages suggested by Jkidd are all I can afford right now, will that help much if everything else stays the same?

If you have a stock H and get a high flow it will be a noticable differance. If you still have stock mufflers anyaftermarket would make a huge differance. Headers are always good for hp and trq

Upgraded motor without upgraded exhaust is kind of like eating a huge bowl of chilli and trying to pass gas through a single pore in your skin. AKA your stock exhaust is holding your motor back. I suspect in current configuration you should be at 300whp

not true.......on either count..........imho..........

I know this is anectdotal, but I have a '93 cobra intake on my fresh 331 build...and I have trouble keeping the tires from roasting LOL.

Should have some dyno numbers fairly soon, but I'd estimate it at well over 320 at the wheels.

Cobra intake FTW :nice:

Another option if you don't have the ca$h for new heads is to have those GT-40s ported by Thumper.

I'm running ported iron GT-40's on my 331 that previously were on a 500 HP 302...they can do the job when ported correctly. My 331 pulls like Satan on meth.

There are a few guys around who get 300 rwhp out of stock heads, so you can definitely work with what you have.

Cobra intakes arent that great unless you get them ported which is a great deal of$$$. Get the gt40 intake to match the heads.

The GT-40, Cobra and Explorer all share the same lower (EGR differences aside) with only very minor differences in flow on the uppers. The advantage to the Cobra and Explorer over the GT-40 is price and ability to port the upper if desired.

It really comes down to which one you prefer the looks of and budget. I choose the Explorer due to budget and the ability to make it look like the original 5.0 intake since the original intake plaque fits it.

I would not read much into that. It is not that big of a difference. It helps though.

The Gt-40 intake is not longer being made.

Porting a Cobra is cheap thru tmoss, and good quality:)

A 65mm throttle body is plenty for 300rwhp.

Porting the Cobra lower, swapping the heads out (after selling the other ones) should get you very close.

Good Luck.
