getting a r6

first bike. i know its getting winter time but i ran up on a killer deal that i cant pass up. its an 01 r6, 30k, bright red/white/black, chrome rims, full exhaust. new tires, chains, sprockets, plugs, clutches.....$3100

i have a 05 r6 and i love it... iv rode the 05 ninja and 05 gsxr600... i like teh r6 best .... just make sure oil was changed on time all the time, and switch to synthetic if u do get it...full exhaust? should have a power commander on it too

I say hold off. First off that year r6 is carb'd not fuel injected and 30k is a lot on a bike. Just wait till next summer and save up for a 03 + r6.

yea the only bike i have ever drove was an 05 r6...damn that thing has throttle response from hell. headers all the way back

yea thats true but i don't see why it can't go 50k. It has a Stage 3 jet kit which supposedly helps fuel flow. plus i would really love to get some much needed experience by the time springs rolls around so i can get some asses on the back haha

and you will get asses i had chicks just jump on at red lights.... and as for t responce thats what i noticed teh most in teh diff in all 3 bikes was the r6 was way more responsive( diff power bands for the others)

Miles dont mean as much as they used to on bikes these days, just as long as the bike is mechanically sound, as the R6 can be pricey to repair. I had a 99 R6 ( red/white/black) with full exhast, re jetted, and a 2 up sprocket. I used to pull away from my buddies 06 Raven R6. It was my first sport bike and in 3 months I was riding so hard I had no chicken line on the left side of my rear tire & 1/8 on the right. More correctly I was riding over my head, had 1 very close call and eventually lost my liecense on the bike. I sold mine shortly after. Ride safe man.

crotch rockets are a hell of a lot of fun! have fun, just don't get stupid!!!

i've had my own near death scare at over 180km/h, and witnessed (saw the crashes happen, even predicted 1 as she passed us) 2 brutal high speed bike accidents and had to help them while waiting for an ambulance. not fun.
anyways, thats a lot of miles for a bike, but have fun, be safe! you'll be ****ing fat bitches in no time!!!

oh - ps! i disagree that miles don't mean much on new bikes. when you're running up to 14k+ rpm red lines consistently, those miles quickly take a toll on the engine.... nobody babies a super bike.

Terrible choice for a first bike. The R6 is a very twitchy bike and can very easily go into a violent headshake or tankslapper if the suspension isn't dialed in perfectly for you. A steering damper is helpful, but more of a bandaid, since it still happens either way. Go over to http://www.sportbikes.net/forums/index.php? and hit up the New Rider Forum and do some reading. Read all of the stickies, then read them again. Then buy some good gear. Then look for a bike with whatever you have left over after you have gear.

I disagree. I raced for years on a r6 ( and now R1) and never had any problems with head shake at all. That bike isn't known for speed wobbles, but watch out for 2nd gear. They are really bad for 2nd gears ( parts is cheap but labour is around $2000). Those k's are super high, my buddy is selling his low mile 01R6 with suspenion, exhaust etc... for 3 g's. Go to www.wera.com. And go to the BBS ( forum) part of it. You can get amazing deals there.

no offence dude but my first bike was and still is a 05 r6 no head shake or tank slap and i dont have a dampner ( yet ) they are good to have.... and from my experience from riding other 600's the r6 is is lighter and more ballanced and actually feels alot smaller which is teh reason i got one for my first bike... but 4 each his own..... and i have a helmit and jacket for sale lol
