Getting Discouraged

Well ive been starting this motor for my stang but as of late my second job that funds my stang build isnt doing so great, well it started in december and only have the short block done......but im considering selling her and taking the funds and dumping all that money into completely finishing the car

So far
Dart Iron Eagle Block .40 Over
Probe Industries Dominator 347 Stroker
Comp Cams Camshaft
Gear Drive
SFI Balancer
Billet Steel Flywheel

i figure i could get around 4-5k for it and dump that into completely tricking out the car with every suspension/brake mod and light engine mods

what do you guys think

If your car is running with another engine then i would just hold on until this one is finished.More than likely i doubt you would get 4-5k for a shortblock and probably loose money.Stick it out,it will be worth it in the end.JMO

10k is including everything, fuel system, transmission, top end stuff etc

minimal fuel system upgrades, save for some nice new or used heads, re-use the remainder your top end till you can upgrade. Do minimum upgrades or wait till you can afford to complete it.

I purchased things like a new MSD dizzy etc. that I really didn't need...........used good oem parts and make it a low budget build.

YOU WILL regret selling your motor and like previously stated - YOU WILL lose money, you always do.

trying to go from a stock motor to a fully built motor is a mistake you need to make small steps, sell the stuff and buy yourself some nice h/c/i

You WILL lose money is the first thing to know/embrace, every nickle in a car isn't an investment, its recreation. You hafta look at it that way- most cars are a $ loser. With that said, you might want to rethink the timetable, try to think,"There is no hurry!". It helps me sleep better at night, these things take some guys weeks to build; they have loads of time/money. Others take longer(I'm one of those) cuz I for one won't live for my car, its just a form of recreation. I got a whole life to pay for as well. Do the things you want, or wait on them til you can, or do them next time. But don't do things to the car that'll make you say'"I wish I hadn't done the..."

either way i need to buy an h/c/i so that isnt the best idea

im not using any used parts, its gonna be an all new motor, but i know what your guys mean i need patience but i just wanna have the damn thing done already.

I do know what you mean. I pulled my 86 motor out for no apparent reason, It was high mileage but ran strong and didn't burn oil or anything. It only had a few minor mods including a tubular GT-40 intake etc. etc.

I got the itch and yanked it thinking I could rebuild it. Obviously not well thought out and rushed. I realized after a short time that it was cheaper to buy componets to build a 331 than rebuild my 302 locally. (even after very high machine shop costs)

I waited saved, bought some parts, worked some extra hours, took on a second job, begged the wife, worked some more, bought some more parts and then begged my wife so more until it all came together. It took me 4 years of having no engine in the car!!!!

But Strippt88 is right is a recreation thing. A investment it's not. That's why so many people sell their cars for so cheap on Ebay etc. It's easier to buy someone else's projects because they bought all the parts and are now going to take a loss.

I'm not saying buy a different car but look at your interests. Do you want the enjoyment and satisfaction of building it yourself or just buy one and drive it?

I personally loved building my engine and the satifsfaction of hearing start up for the first time was priceless. It was a first for me. Now I've just bolted on a supercharger. Again a first. It's been a lot of fun. Yes I look back at what I've spent and the hours invested. It would have been a #$@$ easier buying a ready done car.

But what fun would that have been?????

Oh and I forgot to add........I got so frustrated in those 4 years I listed the car and all my parts on Ebay. I was going to get NOTHING for it!!!!!! After my neighbor offered to buy it and finish it so he could sell it I finally came to my senses. I then had enough motivation to keep going. I waited that long why not wait a little longer!!!!!!

anything i own has been worked on by me entirely i dont like buying someone elses projects, i like starting my own and finishing them. i was simply stating that maybe i should sell these parts and buy all the stuff i didnt get like: cage, k member, new interior, various suspension knick nacks, etc you know really tricking out the car and making it look all bitchen then drop in some serious power later, but i just needed to vent it out i guess

I would keep it all. No way your going to get 4k-5k for that shortblock right now. I'd say about $3,000, everyone is selling their stuff for dirt cheap because nobody has any money for extras.

take your time. took me over a year to piece together all the mods you see on my 89. i bought parts when i didnt even have a stang haha.

take your time, dont cut corners, they will come back to bite you in the ass.

and you would be lucky to sell your motor for 2,500 right now. just keep it. put your top end on it. FOR NOW and just drop it in and break the motor in. then up grade it later. doing it ALL at once is going to cause so many damn headaches

I would keep what you have. I regret selling some parts then have to go buy them again. Think about what it will cost you to build that short block again versus what your selling it for.

On a side note I see you have 275/40's all the way around. How's the fit in the front? Do you have any pics? I have a set of 03 Cobra wheels with 275's in the front and 315's in the back. I'd like to use on my notch when I go 5 lug. They have about 80% thread left so I'd like to use them without having to buy smaller tires for the front.

and then as soon as you start it. yupp there used parts. why take the hit on the new cost price? buy some used parts. obviously not some things but heads, intakem tb you can get away with.

your being sturborn here. think of this. let the thing sit for another 3 years till you have the money to complete it or take baby steps with it and work your way up. doing it all at once is going to cause alot of bugs to work out. do it a step at a time and save yourself some grey hair.

i do have pics but no one gets to see them yet, but the fit is pretty tight damn things rub alot, im not sure if im gonna run them after the new paint or not

and if something goes wrong no one is accountable, also it wont take that long either estimated completion date is nov 4th
