Hey all it's been awhile, Just had a new addition and had to put everything on hold for awhile.

But tomorrow i'm getting my exhaust done and wanted to know what i should do.
I was going to go with 21/2 to the axles and run two racing mufflers in the rear. Now waht i was wondering if i should put a high flow cat in???
The one the guy showed me looked like a universal cat you would use for replacing oem cats.
I have the n/a but am doing some mods then will put a turbo on so was going to get the exhaust out of the way.

So far i have retarded the cam,CIA,ranger header and tomorrow the exhaust.

I really didn't want to go with the cat was thinking of 21/2 to the axles then 21/4 to the mufflers.
Let me know thanks!!!

2.5 is a little small for a turbo exhaust.
is it possible to hold off for a little longer?

Well if you are going turbo then take the loss now and get a single 3"
straight back. It may suck now but it isn't that great to begin with, right?

I agree. I would hold off for a 3" system for when you get your 2.3T, they say you can spool a turbo like 300 rpms faster with a 3" exhaust. I'm not sure what is the hp difference is between the two exhaust set ups is, but I'm sure the 3" is a hair more. As for the cat, I'm going to use one of thse universel High flow 3", so I don't have to deal with the inspection punks

What exactly do you mean by "racing" muffler? Don't put on something like a glasspack because it'll sound like crap.

the difference in flow is huge. the cross sectional area of a 2.5" pipe is 4.9 sq inch. a 3" pipe is 7.1 sq inches. that is a 44% increase. If you go with a 2.5" now, it will never truly be optimized, and will really hold you back over 250hp... if you plan to make that much.

Thats pretty cool, 7.1 sq inches. I plan to make 230-250hp, but I still will go with a 3" exhaust.

I hope its not a glass pack
**Not only does a glasspack sound like crap, its restrictive like crazy.**

2.5 is fine for a tailpipe but you will need larger downpipe and mid pipes.

The full setup depends what hp goals and turbo you are going to be running anyway.
IHI or small T3 would be fine with 2.5 but i would still run 3" DP.

Save your money for the turbo, you will just notice a power loss with a huge exhaust now.

Well i eneded up going with the 2.2 exhaust i figured i probably wouldn't have the turbo and all that done till summer anyways.
Plus when i do i'll just swap it over to my girlfriends stang and redo it.
Also the guy i took it too said that if i wanted three inch that i would have to order the piping and i would have a hard time running it because it's so big.

The racing mufflers are the high flow through i have them in the back of the car actually only have one seeing how my gas tank interferes on the passenger side so now i must find a 5.0 gas tank to get the right side done and need to run a high flow cat resonator because right now it is really loud!!!!
Ive went to four or five places and nobody wants to do anything with my car i guess cause i don't have a v-8 and everybody looks at me like i'm crazy.
So i just settled with i got today!!
For one my exhaust had too get done the tail was missing and fumes were getting in the car.
So i guess well just have to see what the hell i can do now i already have the mufflers and can't really take them back and one is already welded on so i'm sort of screwed thought i was going to spend just a couple of hundred.
Well 2 mufflers 200.00 half exhaust done 106.00 gas tank fuel pump resonator and finish the other side going to end up being another 200.00.
I just got screw me tatooed on my forehead!!!

Well I understand the 3" issues, I live in a small town also

Now on that gas tank I thought the 2.3L and the 5.0L had the same gas tank? The 5.0L don't have the mufflers on the rear of the car like a ricer, they hang in front of the rear end. As for loudness, if your going to go turbo I wouldn't worry about it then. The turbo acts like a muffler, I just went for a cruz in a few TC'S one had a busted Flow master and the other a Hooker Aero chamber, both without cats. They sounded nice and mellow ( even when driveing behind them at a cruz speed) Just like my 93' LX with a high flow cat and a turbo muffler. That Aerochamber though is really cool sounding to me

I made my own 3" for my TC in about 4 hours with no special tools. I planned it out, and went to midas/autozone and had them bend me the correct shape i wanted and i got some 3" clamps and bolted it up.

Oh yeah, it cost me about 30 bucks plus the muffler to dump it before the axle.

It cost over $500 for that!!! I would feel like I got screwed by a Jackson and did not get to ride the Ferris Wheel!!
