getting hot

i have a 67' stang with a 93 gt engine... the car gets hott with in 15 min of driving it shoots to 250+ .. we echanged the electric fan with a engine fan and its still getting hot. we're thinking it might be the thermostate ...could there be any other reasons for it getting hot.

If you describe the the temp fluctuations better, it will make it easier to help. For example does it run steady at a lower temp for a while and then jump, or does it just shoot up. Does it only run hot in traffic, or at highway speeds.
The engine fan probably isn't helping, unless there was a problem with the e- fan.

Is this a new combination? What size is the radiator, application? What t stat are you using? Water pump?
Stuff like that.

Check and make sure the thermostat is installed properly, with the spring part pointing back towards the intake manifold.

Is there coolant in the radiator? What is the water / coolant ratio?

Blown head gaskets do cause overheating issues also. need more descriptive information to help
