Getting parts for this winter!!

I am starting to plan ahead for this winter in Iowa. I am planing on buying a complete mercury motor out of a mountaineer. I am also going to pull the motor and sand and fill all of the holes in the engine bay and paint.

My first question is should I use the mercury block? I am going to have the heads and intake gone through by a shop here. But is the block any better than mine? I'm not sure on the mileage on the mercury but my block has 104k

My second question is which cam would work best with gt40p heads? I know that a lot of people use the tfs 1 cam with this set up.

I will have about $750 bucks after the mercury motor, so I also want to know what else I should plan while my car is down? I have sub frame connectors, 75 mm throttle body w/spacer, moved the battery to the back, upr upper and lower control arms.

So, what else should I look to buy before this winter. I want to keep my eyes open to find the good deals.

Thanks for the advice in advance

I also agree with the gears and shifter. I would try to keep some reserve money because things always end up costing more than they initially seem. That way you can cover those unforeseen costs and get the project done. :nice:

if you want to keep the price down keep your stock ho cam.you change the cam u will need springs and that cost more money.plus with the ho cam driveabilty should be easier to attain.

I would agree with the drive ability but, this car is not my daily driver. It gets driven when it's nice out in the summer I would rather have a cam that sounds good and will give me a couple of more horses :D

Are springs something that should always be bought new? Or could I find a deal on them some where? Used?

Thanks for the input everyone
